Challenge

Week 5.2 - Multi Level Meshing

Problem Solution
The Given CAD model is imported to the ice pack and without changing any mesh input,
mesh is generated.
No of mesh obtained:714150
No of Node obtained: 916058

With Non conformal Assembly:
● When the mesh is generated for the Mesh assemblies separately. Mesh count reduced
and non conformal assembly meshing is done.
● DIMMS mesh separately option is enabled
● Mesh count: 551567obtained which is less than the mesh obtained above with
conformal meshing

With the Use f mesh separately option with slack values:
● The offset added to Assembly in respective directions is called Slack Values.
● The slack values are zero in all directions initially. But to use non-conformal mesh,
the slack values should be a positive number
● The Slack values should be such that cells on both sides of the interface are either
fluid or solid, and it must not violate any of the non conformal rules

With the Use of object parameters:
In ice packs different parameters can be assigned such as power value, object size, flow rate,
object active or inactive, etc as input
To define these parameters Parameters and Optimization is to be used in Icepak (under Solve
and select Run Optimization).
For each parameter, when assigned for the first time, you will need to provide an initial value
for that parameter.

Conclusion
In the current project, the given Icepak model was modified to achieve better
resolution of CAD objects using multi-level meshing, uniform meshing and local
refinement The generated was checked for quality using the three metrics & mesh
was inspected visually. It can be concluded that the modified mesh (multi-levelmesh) was able to better resolve the CAD objects using much fewer elements than
the initial mesh
