Challenge

Week 4 -Wire Bending Challenge

OBJECTIVE :

  • To find out equivalent stress and equivalent strain in copper non linear alloy wire ,aluminium non linear wire and magnesium non linear alloy materials

PROCEDURE :

  • Open the ANSYS WORKBENCH R2
  • select static structural analysis
  • select engineering data and choose copper non linear alloy from general non linear material list
  • import geomtry
  • rename its part
  • select structural steel as material for wheel and lever
  • select material as copper non linear alloy for wire
  • in contact section duplicate cotact between wire and lever and delete other two default contacts
  • on duplicate contact flip the contact and target
  • select both contact and choose rename based on defenition
  • choose type as frictional and input frictional coefficient of .2
  • choose formulation as augmented legrange
  • change normal stiffness to factor and input .1
  • update stiffness to each itration
  • interface treatment to add offset ,ramped effect
  • insert body to ground revolute joints ,choose inside part of hole in lever as its scope and adjust its coordiante system by creating new coordinate system other than global coordinate system
  • select all geometry by body selecting tool and insert methode in mesh and change type to tetrahedrone
  • select wire ,its edge part and portion which wire highly contacted to wheel and insert sizing choose type as sphere of influence ,input radius of sphere as 10mm and element size as 0.55 mm
  • select wire alone and insert sizing ,input element size as 1 mm
  • click generate mesh
  • in analysis setting input number of step as 8
  • for the first step keep auto time step ON , choose defined by time ,input for initial time step is .1 ,maximum time step is .1 and minimum time step is .01
  • choose solver type as direct ,weak spring to program controled and keep large deflection on
  • in output control turn every term into yes
  • select all step from second to last step and keep carry over time ON ,input maximum step as 1 s and minimum step as .1
  • insert fixed support twice to analysis ,choose inside part of hole in wheel as scope for one and for other choose end portion wire as scope
  • insert joint load , choose inner part of hole in lever as its scope ,choose type as rotation input magnitude by tabular data as -20,-40,-60,-80,-100-,-120,-140,-140
  • insert von mises stress and von mises strain in solution and choose wire only as its scope
  • run the solve
