Challenge

Week - 4 - Crash Box Simulation

Aim/Objective:
To create a rigid wall or a solid surface
Material section id boundary conditions and other required card id
Velocity needs to be created and assigned with thickness
To create complete simulation file for drop test

Model 1&2
Procedure :
Steps :
Import the file.k format to open on lsdyna prepost
Create entity under rigid wall create rigid wallsing planar option
Then created the following card for the simulation

Boundary card :
Under boundary card spc was set NSID value 1
Then under FEM model part create entity was selected in that set data set node option used
In Which create entity option was used for crash box selected by part option all four sides created

Contact card :
Automatic surface to surface was used in this card
SSID 1 MSID 1 SSTYP 3 MSTYP 3 FS 0.2 FD 0.1

Control card :
Termiantion option was selected for the simulation run time
The run time was given 5 seconds end time

Database card :
AscII option was selected GlSTAT MATSUM ELOUT was given 0.1
Binary D3 plot DT value was given 0.1

Element card :
Shell option was selected element card EID and PID options was entered 1

Initial card :
Velocity option was selected and VX=-13.5 Millimetre and millisecond from 50kmph
VX= -13.5 was also the direction for crash box to move

Keyword card :
The values are set as default

Material card :
For crash box Elastic was selected ( RO:7.800e-06 E:205.00000 PR:0.33)
For Surface Rigid card was selected ( RO:75.000000 E:205.00000 PR:0.3)

Node ID card :
Node ID card the value was 1

Part card :
Under Part id PID 1 SECID 1 MID 1

Rigid wall card :
The Planar option id was 1 selected

Section card :
Sec id was selected and SECID:1 ELFORM:10 T1: 1.2 For model 2 T2: 1.5

Set card :
The values are default

Title card :
The details in this card is default

Output :
Then the file was saved after creation by using file save as keyword for both model
Further LSRUN was opened and File was added runned status was finished normal termination
Then LS prepost file open ls dyna binary plot then D3plot was selected and opened
crash box hitting the surface and bouncing back repeatedly hitting was viewed
There was no stress before the crash box hit the surface
The simulation was runned selecting post option fringe component
It was runned again to view the stress and strain result
The same was done for model 2 also

LEARNING OUTCOMES :
To create boundary material part Section and other cards was learned
Then running the simulation to view the results of stress
Crash box hitting the surface and the stress was viewed clearly
Thickness change gave different result for Model 2 simulation

Result :
Thus the given crah box test simulation was done and the file is attached for reference
