Week 4 - 2D Meshing for Sheet Metal

Aim :
To improve geometrical errors and take midsurface for CCB Assembly
To assign PID and Thickness to the midsurface
A proper midsurface needs to be extracted
Meshing the geometry with proper flow individual componenets
Obtain the quality criteria with a proper mesh flow

Componenet : CCB Assembly

S.No Quality Criteria Value

1 Target/Average length 5

2 Minimum Length 3

3 Maximum Length 7

4 Aspect 3

5 Warpage 15

6 Skewness 45

7 Jacobian 0.7

8 Minimum Quad Angle 45

9 Maximum Quad Angle 135

10 Minimum Tria Angle 30

11 Maximum Tria Angle 120

12 Tria Percentage 15

Procedure :
Step 1
A geometry check needs to be done So topo option is used
perimeter option is used length and macros given for cons resolution
check for geometry any errors fix it select single cons option and check
Select cross hatches for taking the midsurface
Measure is used to check thickness average thickness taken for slight change in thickness

Step 2
There are Thirty four midsurface parts so individualy every part is taken and meshed
Checked for thickness and used offset command for midsurface
As some of the parts were having same thickness so midsurface skin is used
once all the midsurface is taken then they are meshed
For manual midsurface pid is entered for automatic mid surface the value is assigned

Step 3
Again checked for geometry error by unticking the single cons
Perimeter length and macros given as per target length
Hotpoints and unwanted feature lines are toggled so that mesh flow will be proper
Quality criteria is given before meshing all the paratmeters
Meshing is done on midsurface individually by using best mesh

Step 4
After meshing any off elements are there using reconstruct options are fixed
The trias are fixed by using split and swap commands
Grids move option is also used the improve quality all the components are meshed properly
once the quality criteria is obtained with proper mesh its checked for improvments
Then used shell as solid option and checked then submitted

Learning Outcomes :

Cleaned Geometry individually all components
Midsurface taken for all and meshed them
Pid is assigned for manual midsurface
Quality criteria is obtained with proper meshflow

Conclusion :
CCB cad model midsurface is taken and meshed with given quality parameters The completed file is attached for reference
