Week 4 Challenge
AIM – The aim of our is that, to Calculate the Earth pressure acting on the abutment wall and Create the model in Staad Pro
and analysis the Structure .
INTRODUCTION – The Project of I Girder Bridge to be designed for the following data given below
The Abutment wall is 5m Length
The Backfill soil is 7m Height
The Ground Level is at 3m above the Top of foundation Level
Assume Water Table at GL
PROCEDUCE IN DETAIL:-
STEP1:- First create the node and select the add beam command and create the beam.

STEP2:- Then, Select the beam then go to the translation repeat Command and create the beam

Step3:- Then using the plate command and create the plate with help of translation command

Step4:- After create the model then go the support command and add Foundation support and select the foundation plate with help of plate cursor and create the foundation supports.
Subgrade modulus = safe bearing capacity / SETTLEMENT
We assume the Subgrade Modulus is 15 kN /M2/M
Step5:- After Create the support then go to the properties command and select geometry and assign the properties

Step6:- After go to the Load command and go to the Load cases details and add Earth Pressure

Step7:- Then Calculate earth pressure and apply into the model.
Earth Pressure (K1) =Ka Y h
Assume the Active Earth Pressure Coefficient (Ka) is 0.35
Assume unit weight (Y) of Soil is 18 kN/m3
Height =3m
K1 =0.35*18*7
=44.1kN/m2
Earth Pressure (K2) =ko Y h
Assume the Rest Earth Pressure Coefficient (Ko) is 0.5
Assume unit weight (Y) of Soil is 18 kN/m3
Height =7m
K2=0.5 *18*3
=27 kN/m2

Step8:- Then slave the file and assign run analysis

Step9:- Then Check the Deflection, displacement and all deformation on the structural element

RESULT:- K1 = 44.1 kN/m2 and K2=27 kN/m2 Earth Pressure is acting On the Foundation
