Week 4- Challenge
AIM- Creat 1D elements on the following component with given cross-section and DOF
STEPS-
1. Import the given model as shown-
2. Extract the mid surface out of it-
Midsurface is 2D element, extracted to represent the 3D surface. It can be done only on surface with uniform thickness. Whenever we mesh a 3D model, large nodes and elements will be involved, which in turn will consume huge time, memory and processing power to complete the task. To overcome this type of difficulty midsurface is used to represent the entire 3D model.Goto to geometry and then click on mid-surface followed by selecting the surface also provide the washer split at an offset distance of 5mm to properly fit the mesh size as shown.
3. Meshing of the surface-
Goto to 2D mesh and then select automesh by giving element size as 5mm and keep the elements as a mixed of trias and quads as shown
4. Creating the given cross section-
To assign the cross section to the element present at locations a,b,c we need to open hyperworks to do so.
a. cross section for location a is empty box of the dimension a=12mm, b= 10mm, t= 0.75mm with only translational DOF and RBE2 link as shown below.
b. Cross section for location b has I cross section of the dimensions a=8mm, b=10mm,c=8.5mm,t1=0.75mm,t2=0.6mm,t3=0.6mm with all DOF and RBE3 link as shown below.
c. Cross section for section c is CROSS of the dimension dim1=5mm,thickness dim2=1.2mm,dim3=10mm,thickness dim4=1.2mm with only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link as shown.
5. Creation of suitable elements-
Create element Rbe2 at the locations f,a,and e. Rbe2 is a rigid element whose stifness is infinite which makes it compleately indeformable and create element Rbe3 at locations b and c. This element is deformable. Also create Rod,bar and beam element at locations a,b and c.Also place a mass of magnitude 10 at locations d&f. Now to join the 2 brackets join them by elastic element so that the relative movement b/w them at the ends is non zero. Now after doing all this bracket will be looking as shown.
OUTCOME-In this exercise I can created 1D ROD, BAR and BEAM Element. The cross section used in hyperbeam library and giving input dimension as per defination and created 1D element, Spring, Rigids and Rbe3 Elements.
