Week 4- Challenge
OBJECTIVE: To create 1D elements on the following component with given cross-section and DOF.
In this assignment we learn to give material, properties to elements. Creating components, advantages of creating separate components before performing various commands. We learn about the uses 1-D elements and their advantages. Difference between bar, rod and beam. The main focus of 4th week assignment is mid-surfacing. Mid-surfacing as the name suggest is a surface at the middle in between of 2 individual surfaces. Mid-surfacing is used where geometry is simple, the distance between the 2surfaces are constant. There are 4 different ways to execute the mid-surface
- Offset plane sweep
- Offset plane
- Offset
- Skin offset
CASE 1
- Rod element: - with only translational DOF and RBE2 link.
- First step would be to get the mid-surface of both brackets. Once the mid-surface is created, we would mesh the mid-surfaces (the quality of the mesh is not important).
- We would provide the bracket with its material (steel), property (material, thickness), washer split.
- Now we will go to 1d option, select rigid, this would open a dialog box, do the appropriate selection of the independent and dependent drop down and select the required dofs. Click create.
- After doing this a rbe2 link would have been created.
- Repeat the point iii on below circle. By doing this step we would have created the rbe2 link on top and bottom circle cutout.
- Now we have to create the rod element, for thar click on hyper-beam option in 1d dialog box, this would take us to another dialog box. Here we have to select the standard section and provide the section library and section type and click create
- A new window of hyper-beams pop-ups. Provide the dimension given in the question into the dialog box of the hyper-beams and we will get required rod cross section.
- Now we will again create a property for the rod, changing the card image to PROD and beam section to the earlier created thin walled section.
CASE 2
- Beam element:- with all DOF and RBE3 link
- Now we will go to 1d option, select RBE3, this would open a dialog box, do the appropriate selection of the independent and dependent drop down and select the required dofs. Click create.
- After doing this a RBE3 link would have been created.
- Repeat the point iii on below circle. By doing this step we would have created the rbe2 link on top and bottom circle cutout.
- Now we have to create the beam element, for thar click on hyper-beam option in 1d dialog box, this would take us to another dialog box. Here we have to select the standard section and provide the section library and section type and click create
- A new window of hyper-beams pop-ups. Provide the dimension given in the question into the dialog box of the hyper-beams and we will get required beam cross section.
- Now we will again create a property for the beam, changing the card image to PBEAM and beam section to the earlier created I section.
CASE 3
- Bar element:- with only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link
- Now we will go to 1d option, select RBE3, this would open a dialog box, do the appropriate selection of the independent and dependent drop down and select the required dofs. Click create.
- After doing this a RBE3 link would have been created.
- Repeat the point iii on below circle. By doing this step we would have created the rbe2 link on top and bottom circle cutout.
- Now we have to create the BAR element, for thar click on hyper-beam option in 1d dialog box, this would take us to another dialog box. Here we have to select the standard section and provide the section library and section type and click create.
- A new window of hyper-beams pop-ups. Provide the dimension given in the question into the dialog box of the hyper-beams and we will get required bar cross section.
- Now we will again create a property for the beam, changing the card image to PBEAM and beam section to the earlier created CROSS section.
CASE 4
- Apply the mass of magnitude 10 with RBE2 link
- Create rbe3 link on the 4 circular cutout in the flanges of thre brackets
- Go to masses option in 1d, select the nodes to which you have to give mass, give magnitude and select element type as CMASS1
CASE 5
- Join the two components with Spring elements
- Go to thespring option in 1d,select the the nodes between which you want the spring, determine the dofs, click create
