AIM:

    • To extract and mesh the bottle cap plastic component according to the quality criteria mentioned in the question

PROCEDURE FOR MESHING

  • Once geometry cleanup is completed meshing is next.
  • Some rules of thumb when meshing:
      • The mesh should look rather smooth and regular
      • Use the simplest element type suited for the problem.
      • Start with a coarse mesh and understand the modeling results; then use a finer mesh if needed.
      • Try to keep mesh related uncertainties to a minimum if possible. Keep it simple as it can get more complicated on its own.
      • How Not to Mesh
        • Back to back triangles should be avoided. Two tria elements should not be connected to each other directly.
        • On plane surfaces triangular element should be avoided.
        • No mesh transition on constant radius fillets / curvatures
        • Circular holes should be modelled carefully with a washer (1.5 to 2 times diameter) and a minimum of two layers around the hole.
        • Holes should be modelled with an even number of equally spaced elements: For a better representation of the hole geometry and smooth mesh flow lines, holes should be modelled with an even number of elements (like 6, 8, 12,16 etc. rather than 5, 7, 9 or 13).
        • Nodes should lie properly on the surface, with no deviation (and no kinks).
        • Follow the feature lines (nodes should lie exactly on the edges).
        • Instead of a zig-zag distribution, a structured or smooth mesh is recommended
        • For crash analysis, follow the mesh flow line requirement
        • For crash analysis, rotating quads are not Recommended.
        • For crash analysis, constant mesh size (by using trias) is preferred (due to a minimum element length and a time step criteria).
      • PROCEDURE OF MID SURFACE EXTRACTION:
        • STEP:1 IMPORT THE MODEL AND VIUALIZE THE 2D TOPO
        • STEP:2 CLEAR THE ALL FREE EDGE BY USING THE CUT,RELEASE,DELETE IN HOT POINT AND CONS
        • STEP:3 CHECK NO FREE EDGE & 3 SURFACE ASSOCITATED SURFACE LINE
        • STEP:4 USE MID SURFACE APPRAPERIATE SELECTION METHOD
        • STEP :5 CHECK ANY SURFACE GILITICHES ARE FOUND AND CLEAR IT
  • CHECKING THE MODEL IF UNIFORM THICKNESS OR NOT
    • Before gone to take mid surface you first check the model by check manger
    • After check manager gives a green signal we check the given model is uniform thickness or not. it done by measurement between two nodes
    • After measuring the various area of the component we decide the given component are non uniform thickness so, we do the manual offset method for the mid surface extracting
    • same like this we measure the thickness between various two surface and extract the manually
  • FEATURE CAPTURING IN MID SURFACE
    • For feature capturing the inner rib go to the curve>middle.
    • After getting the middle curve we crate face between two go to face>new>cons
    • In same way we create the mid surface of inner rib
    • After completing the inner rib we want to take mid surface of threading area. by taking the mid surface of threading area go to curve>middle curve option
    • After taking the middle curve. project the curve in the opposite surface by using the cons project option
    • After projecting the curve we want create surface of threading area go to >face>new>cons
    • In same way we take the mid surface in the inner cap threading also
    • In the same way we take the upper side surface also
    • After completing all mid surface the final mid surface part of bottle cap is below shown image
    • After the completing the mid surface create lock view of mid surface as shown image and orient surface in out side is gray
    • Procedure to mashing the component
    • Once mid surface is coompleing means the next step is Discretization. dividing the big structural into small small piece as name of node and element
    • First upload the certria file as question mentioned press F11
    • meshing is take care of surface by surface go to >mesh generation>best >select
    • After completing the all surface mashing is done the final mash surface shown below image
    • As per quality none of the element are failed and the number of tria element are 227 and the percentage is 2.60 only upto 15% acceptable and the total quad element are 8493 and the percentage is 97.40%
  • CREATING THE PROPERTY OF THE GIVEN MODEL
    • After completing the mid surface ,meshing next we need assign the property of the component select the Ctrl+P for creating the property
  • Assigning the thickness to the elements
    • press ctrl+F11 go to>presentation parameter>draw as a sloid.
  • Result and conculsion
    • The bottle cap is done the geomentry clean up, mid surface extracting, meshing and assign the property also as per the Quality certeria and the total faling elements are 0% and the quads are 227 i.e 2.6% upto the 15% tria acceptable in general case the tria percentage are only 5%
  • Learing outcomes
