Week - 4 - 2D meshing for Plastic components
Aim:- Extract the mid surface for given Sheetmetal component and mesh the component, assign the quality criteria as per given parameters.
S.No Parameters value
- Target/Average length 1
- Minimum length 0.5
- Maximum length 3
- Aspect ratio 3
- Warpage 45
- Jacobian 0.7
- Minimum Quad angle 45
- Maximum Quad angle 135
10 Minimum tria percentage 30
11 Maximum tria percentage 120
- Tria percentage 15
Procedure: -
Imported the model into the GUI interface, check the geometry, resolve issues like needle faces, triple cons then, do the cons resolution.

Component consists a feature like ribs, outside ribs, inside ribs having variable thickness so, extract the mid surface one by one using offset surface method, mid surface skin options.

The model consists ribs around the bottom periphery, has the variable thickness so, the mid surface can be extracted using the option mid surface-à skin option.

For threaded feature, take a mid-curve and then project the curve onto the surface. Created a new surface.
Assigned the PID’s for the feature while creating the mid surfaces and given proper thickness to the mid surfaces.

Meshing:
Assigned the mesh quality parameters and the target elemental length 1mm for regenerating proper mesh flow and convert the cons to joined cons where the regions elementals are failing and for proper mesh flow.

Joined cons
Mesh the areas first at the top and circular surface then, mesh inner and outer ribs, teeth. Reconstruct the improper meshed areas to remove the trias, use smoothening techniques for correct the quality criteria.
sometimes for removing the trias manually spilt the trias and join them to form a quad element.
use the paste nodes to remove the opposite trias where those trias occurs on the surface.

After meshing completed, draw shell element into solid elements

Conclusion: -
Extracted the mid-surface and meshed the component as per given quality criteria. Drawn the shell elements into solids.
