Week 3 Verification of Weld Joints
Objective:
To simulate three different types of welding using three different weld materials and to record the values in each simulation.
Procedure:
- At first import the model and assign the given materials to each of the cases.
- Set all the meshing parameters.
- Allighn the fixed support for the given model.
- Give proper Load as 15000N.
- Give all the boundary conditions.
- Give the solution values for the models.
- Assighn safety factor and force.
- Simulate the model for all the three given weld materials.
Conclusion:
The given weld joint model is simulated with three different material cases and the values are recorded.
CASE i :
- For case 1 the material we will use is stainless steel.
- In this case, the material of the plates must also be the same.
- Use Stainless steel for both weldments and plates.
- No need to add flux to the weldments.
- Simulated the results and the values are recorded.
CASE II :
- For case 2 the material we will use is AL alloy.
- The material to be chosen for this case is Aluminium alloy(high strength, wrought).
- Plate material to be used is stainless steel.
- Here the simulation is done for all the cases.
- The safety factor is recorded.
- The force vector is given as "y" direction.
- The values are recorded.
CASE iii :
- For this model we will use bronze as the weld material.
- In order to simulate "Brazing", you should be using bronze as the weld material. Assign Stainless Steel to both plates and Copper to the "Ribs".
- Here the simulation is done for all the cases.
- The safety factor is recorded.
- The force vector is given as "y" direction.
- The values are recorded.
For each case, the Directional Deformation and equivalent strain experienced by the setup has been calculated.
The weld joint that experiences the highest equivalent stress in each case and compared the results for all three cases.
