Week - 3 Drop test Challenge
CELLPHONE DROP TEST
OBJECTIVE:
To familiarize the LS-PrePost interface by performing the drop test of a cell phone model.
- To create and assign material and section ids to the parts.
- To create node sets to define the boundary conditions.
- To setup termination cards and output files.
- To plot the results
MODEL USED:
Unit system: kg mm ms
BOUNDARY CONDITIONS:
- The base part is completely fixed.
- Initial velocity of 5m/s is applied on the cell phone.
- The simulation time is set to 5ms.
CASE SETUP:
- Import the model to the Ls-PrePost.
- Now, delete the shell elements in the model.
- Create a boundary spc card for the base components restricting all degrees of freedom.
- Now, create a node set selecting all the nodes of the cellphone model.
- Create an initial velecity card for the cellphone node set. The given initial velocity for this node set is 5m/s.
- Now, create material cards for the cellphone part and for the rigid base.
- Create section IDs for the solid body.
- Assign material id and section id to the Parts.
- Create CONTROL TERMINATION CARD.
- Create a contact card with automatic surface to surface contact.
RESULTS:
Equivalent stress:
z-stress:
INTERNAL, KINETIC AND TOTAL ENERGY:
As expected at the time of contact the kinetic energy dropped and the internal energy increased.
CONCLUSIUON:
Found the maximum stress generated on the cell phone at the time of impact.
Understood the use of basic tools and features in the LS-PrePost.
