Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Using ADVISOR tool simulate for the following three quesrions:

1.AIM: To analysis the battery SOP of FTP drive cycle for EV defaults model in Advisor Tool having cargo mass of 500kg.

PROCEDURE:

  • Load Advisor tool in the matlab.
  • Load the EV default model in the advisor tool.
  • Next change the cargo mass to 500kg and run the file.

  • Click 'countinue'. From the drop down menu of the drive cycle select 'CYC_FTP' driving cycle.

  • Then keeping all the parameters as default, select 'RUN' in the bottom right corner of the interface.

Result:

In the above result we can see that, Distance(km) is 17.8km. The vehicle can't travel a distance of 45km in a single recharge. It can be seen that, SOC has fallen to zero after nearly 2500 second.

2. In above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Changing the energy storage to 'ESS_PB65_FocusEV'.

Then keeping the driving cycle same we RUN the simulation.

From the results we can see that distance(km) is 17.8km and the figure hasn't changed but, SOC % at end of 2500 seconds is 0.83 approximately and not zero like the last case. So this means that, in one FTP cycle it covered 17.8kms and charge is still remaining in the battery. So to get how much distance the vechile will travel in a single charge we need to increase the number of drive cycles for which the simulation is perfom the simulation for 7 drive cycle.

Change the # of cycle to 7 and then run the simulation.

From the above result we can see that distance(km) is 96km and also the % of SOC as indicated by second plot is 0% by 13000 seconds appoximately. So in a single charge the vehicle with this configurations can travel a distance of 96km in a single charge.

3.Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file.Compare your result in conclude.

In load file drop down menu select 'PRIUS_Jpn_default_in' and rest of the parameters are kept default.

Then select 'countinue' in the bottom right corner of the window.

Select the gradability test checkbox and then select the grade options.

The speed is kept as 55mph. The gradeability is 1.7%.

Then the speed is changed to 45mph. The gradeability is 2.2%.

Then the speed is changed to 35mph. The gradeability is 2.4%.

Hence it is conclude that by saying that, as speed increase the gradeability decreases.
