Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with the FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.?

About ADVISOR tool:

ADVISOR is a MATLAB/Simulink based simulation program for rapid analysis of the performance and fuel economy of light and heavy-duty vehicles with conventional (gasoline/diesel), hybrid-electric, full-electric, and fuel cell powertrains. New features are developed under the title "Advanced Vehicle Simulator".

Solution:

First, download the ADVISOR tool from the internet and load it in the Matlab by typing "advisor" in the command window.

select 'metric' as the units.

In the load file option, we have to choose 'EV_defaults" file and change the cargo weight to 500kg.

Then click continue In the above and change drive cycle to 'FTP'

Results for 1 "FTP" cycle

1 'FTP' cycle gives 17.8 km and we need 45 km.

so change no. of drive cycles to "4" and run which give distance as "41.4 km"

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

By changing the No. of battery model from 25 to 30 which increases the voltage to 370 V.

Then press continue and keep 4 cycles of 'FTP' drive cycle and run the simulation. We can see the total distance changes to 49.1 km from 41.4 km.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in the table and conclude.

change the load file as "RIUS_Jpn_defaults_" and click continue.

Then select the gradeability option and click grade option and change as follows. select 'All system enabled'

Then change the speed from 10 to 50 mph and see how the gradeability and is plotted in a table below.
