Week 3:- BiW Fixture Design Methodologies Challenges
|
What is Design Methodology ? |
the field of design methodology has addressed design processes, epistemological considerations, and work practices in the design
What are the inputs required from the customer to start designing a Fixture?
Design Input
- Functional and Performance Requirements
- Product Assembly Process Sheet (Product Assembly Process Sheet is a sheet that gives the following information about the Car Product)
- Parts Assembly Sequence.
- Sequence Of Operation.
- Cycle Time.
- System Layout The following Points are to be considered while studying a System Layout .
- Flow Of Parts.
- Station Pitch.

What is the Clamp plan?
A clamp is a fastening device used to hold or secure objects tightly together to prevent movement or separation through the application of inward pressure.Sequence Of clamping points or devices
What is the purpose of a Layout?

What is Ergo data?
he inputs of ergo data will given by the customer mostly in case of manually operated fixtures/manual fixtures. The ergo data is mainly used to make the operator comfortable which may leads to improve the efficiency in cycle time & production.
What do you understand by Weld study?
Welding is a fabrication process whereby two or more parts are fused together by means of heat, pressure or both forming a join as the parts cool. Welding is usually used on metals and thermoplastics but can also be used on wood. The completed welded joint may be referred to as a weldment.
What are the criteria for percentage completion in the designing stage? Explain it in detail ?

Brief about "Output" in design?
Designing output to serve the intended purpose.
Designing output to fit the user.
Delivering the appropriate quantity of output.
Making sure the output is where it is needed.
Providing the output on time.
Choosing the right output method.

What do you understand by structuring a design tree? How does it reduce errors during the design process?

What are Units? Mention 5 types of units.
- Rest unit.
- Fixed pin units.
- Retract pin units.
- Rough locator unit.
- Sensor unit.
- base uint

Describe Fixed Pin units & their purpose?
locating pins are used for controlled, fine tolerance positioning of a work piece. For example, a pallet that is moved along one axis, where the drive mechanism is not accurate and stable enough to place it in a position sufficiently accurate to execute a particular process, the use of locating pins may be the best solution.Usually two locating pins are enough to properly locate the work piece on one plane. There are dozens of styles of locating pins that can be utilized in a design. We will explain the structure and show an example of how each style can be applied.
1.Round Head Pin
2. Diamond Head Pin

What are the different parts of a fixed unit?

1. PIN
3 SIM SPACERS 2.PIN RETAINER
4.BLOCK
5.BLADE \ ADAPOTER PLATE
6.RISER
What is the purpose of making a Rest unit & describe its parts?
Create clamp or rest block as per the company guidelines .
Many company has size of clamp block as 20x20 mm and no of mounting screws and dowels.
Many use 20x20 size rest or clamp block with one screw and 2 dowels or few use with 2 screw and 2 dowels.
Materials of clamp block and rest block to be decided as per the A class panel or B class.
Most of exterior panel holding Teflon material is used.Other wise steel is used with heat treatment.Sometimes Aluminium blocks are also used.start construction of mounting plate or fabrication structure as per the company standard to make the connection with the base plate.

What are the basic fundamentals to design a Sensor unit?
A Sensor unit is a unit design to the car panel electrical sensors this signals from the sensors will be fed to PLC and so the next process will be executed by this signal
- it is sensitive to the measured property
- it is insensitive to any other property likely to be encountered in its application, and
- it does not influence the measured property.

What is a Rough locator unit & what are the basic fundamentals to consider while designing it?
If you are combining rough locator or part sensor bracket along with the clamp unit. Take necessary care means distance of rough locator from panel. (I will write in detail about rough locator and sensor bracket in another topic)

What is a Base unit and describe it's parts?
