Week 3
Week – 3 Challenge
Objective:
For the given component, check for the geometrical errors and mesh with the given element Quality criteria. After meshing the component the thickness has to be assigned.
Write a detailed report on your meshing process and also mention which method you used to extract the mid-surface along with the reason.

Note: All the elements in your model should clear the above-mentioned quality criteria and the features in the model have to be captured properly with good mesh flow. Depending upon this you will be awarded marks.
Procedure:
Open model Hood model_1.stp in ansa.
Check geometry of hood model by Checks > Geometry > Execute.
Extract midsurface by using automidsurface method. Steps for mid surface extraction: Faces > Mid surface > skin > select faces .
Midsurface extraction completed for individual parts separately as shown below.
By using Faces > Orient command kept all faces of parts on same direction.
Below images of parts after midsurface extraction:
- Part_1
- Part_2
- Part_3
- Part_4
- Part_5
After completion of midsurfacer extraction of all parts went for meshing.
All edges of parts alter for 5 mm target length of shell. Perimeters > length > select edges > kept spacing 5
For meshing use tool available in mesh tab. Steps followed for meshing: Mesh generation > Best > select face .
Quality criteria for mesh check by using Hidden drawing style. Checked mesh element for below quality criteria.

Those element failed in quality criteria, repair by using shell mesh > reconstruct > select mesh near fail element.
After completion of meshing apply thickens in property tab.
Same procedure repeats for all below parts. Below images shows parts after meshing.

Conclusion:
Below image shows Hood model after completion of meshing. All mesh element having within required quality criteria.
