Challenge

Week 3 - 2D meshing for Sheet metal

OBJECTIVE:

To check the geometrical errors and mesh the mid-surface for the Hood model as per the given quality criteria.

PROCEDURE:

Importing CAD model:

  1. Open the geometry model. file - open > download > hood challenge > import
  2. Use Topology option to clear the cons and check the model orientation using Entity Drawing Style in Menubar.
  3. Check and assign PID and Materials from Lists menu (if required).
  4. Geometrical Clean-up:
    1. Check for geometrical errors using Checks Manager option. Execute the geometry after selecting the required options.
    2. hide remaining parts and work the one part making its geometrical cleanup.

    Creating Mid-surface:

    • Check the model thickness at different spots using Measure option in Utilities menu.
    • to create the midsurface to the given model and mid surface can be taken from Topo > faces > offset > select the face and give offset distanceand a popup menu will appear where present geometry is required or not
    • after completteing mid surface work on the model and give the target element size as 5 perimeter, size 5 and give the quality criteria as given above. MESHING
      1. After creating the meshing , go to Mesh > mesh generation > best mesh > select the model
      2. verify the element quality of the given component
      3. The geometry cleanup and topology and meshing and quality criteria have done to the given parts of the model

RESULTS:

The given Hood model has been completely meshed maintaining all the quality criteria.
