Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal

Aim:
For the given Hood model, Take the mid surface for all the components after checking the geometrical errors and mesh the mid surface with the given element Quality criteria.

1. Procedure:
First, the hood model is imported into the ANSA. The hood model contains five individual components

Components of Hood:-

  1. Latch (1.2) of uniform thickness.
  2. Inner Extract (0.75)
  3. Outer Extract (0.75)
  4. Hinge (1.2)

2. Geometry Clean-up:
The components are checked for geometry clean-up using Checks > Geometry and clean up the errors using an auto fix and use topo tools to achieve 100%

3. Mid-Surfacing

Next, the mid surface is extracted using the Offset tool by going to Faces>Offset and selecting all the surfaces on one face. Then, half of the thickness is given as the offset value, the direction is checked and offset

4. Mesh Quality Parameters

Next, mesh parameters are configured by going to Utilities>Mesh Parameters. There, target length, minimum element length, and maximum element length are configured

  1. Latch (1.2) of uniform thickness and Mesh with quality check

2. Inner Extract (0.75) and Mesh with quality check

3.Outer Extract (0.75) and Mesh with quality check

4.Hinge (1.2)
