Challenge

Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

Aim: Surface Meshing of a Cylinder

Procedure:

For Geometry check- check manager -select (geometry + intersection ) – excute

filling all errors of single cons surfaces using different options like

topo-faces-new-cons & fitted (or) Topo-cons-fill holes

to make entity or surface not visible use not option

to create PID

for spring and column

use not hide all surfaces except column and spring – lock it to work on it

use Invert not and select column – topo-faces-setPID- new- column ok

select spring repeat the same process

In next step to clear intersection options

Check manager- intersection- select object of spring and column

Delete unnecessary intersection-ok

Also remove surface intersection and make it one surface.

For CFD mesh: 5mm mesh

Go to – mesh group – perimeter – Spacing– AutoCFD – select perimeter – maximum target length 5.3 – minimum target length – 4.7- ok – select macro repeat the same- cfd mesh- visible

For 3 mm mesh

Go to – mesh group – perimeter – Spacing– AutoCFD – select perimeter – maximum target length 3.7 – minimum target length – 2.6- ok – select macro repeat the same- cfd mesh- visible

For 1 mm mesh

Go to – mesh group – perimeter – Spacing– AutoCFD – select perimeter – maximum target length 1.4 – minimum target length – 0.5- ok – select macro repeat the same- cfd mesh- visible

Volume mesh:

Mesh- volumes- define- ok- delete spring and column volume- type rapido- remesh -ok

Results & Conclusion:

All the single con error are removed using surface error method by replacing surfaces with different methods. All the intersection errors are removed.

In surface mesh three different element sizes are used. Those are 5mm, 3mm, 1mm respectively.

In 5mm mesh 9780 nodes were formed after mesh but the spring inside is not meshed properly.

3 mm mesh generated 22001 nodes with refined mesh compare to 5mm mesh, but still spring was not meshed properly and the spring cross section was changed.

1 mm mesh generated 100438 meshes with fine mesh compare to the 5mm and 3mm, also the spring is meshed properly as shown in image.

For volumetric mesh, the volume for the mesh was selected and meshed using type rapid with 1 mm mesh element size and it generated 879004 mesh elements. The cross section view of pressure valve also observed.

Learning outcomes:

From this challenge, how to remove geometrical and intersectional error using different surface techniques were done. How to create different PIDs and usage of not and invert not option, surface mesh with different element sizes is done. Volumetric mesh of pressure valve with 1mm element size also performed.
