Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve
Detailed Report:
WEEK 2 CHALLENEGE: SURFACE MESHING OF A PRESSURE VALVE:
Software Using :ANSA 23.0.0
Introduction to ANSA Software:
Ansa software is mainly using for pre-processing in CFD.Pre-processing including geometry cleanup and meshing. It is developed by BETA CAE systems.
Comparison between ANSA and HYPERMESH:
Both software has it's own advantages and limitations
Hypermesh can use for r, processing and post processing.Hypermesh is best for meshing plastic components.Hypermesh is made by Altair Engineering.
Ansa is using mainly for pre-processing.Ansa is best for meshing sheet metals.Quality of mesh is superior to Hypermesh.
Aim:
For the given model(pressure valve) correct the geometrical error and perform topology cleaanup ; also do meshing for three diffrent mesh length ie for 1mm, 3mm and 5mm.
Procedure:
Case 1 (Target Length=5mm):
1. First download the given geometry file and save in a folder.
2. Open that geometry file in ANSA software in cfd mode.

3.On Surface label and shadow mode.
4. Check the geometry by using wireframe mode also.
5.Do geometry check for the different types of errors.
6. Then it shows that different types of errors like single cons, tripple cons, penetration error etc.

7. Trying to solve single con error by creating new surface on that areas.
8. For creating new surfaces I used different options like fill hole, coons, fitted, planar and existing surface and I attached screenshots for using different options.

9.Then combination of these options also used at some areas for surface creation.

10. Then some cons deleted by using 'cut' option beacuse that cons will create very narrow surfaces and that will generate error while meshing ; screenshot for that also attached here.

11. Tripple con error also solved by deleting unwanted surfaces.

12.Then worked to solve penetration error.

13. For that I assigned PIDs for coloumn and spring first ,images for that attached here.

14. Then by using 'intersecting' option I created cons for seperating the boundaries for intersection and then deleted unwanted portions of spring and coloumn.
15. Then by doing geometry check again I could see that penetration error solved.

16. After solving penetration error, I assigned PIDs for all other parts.

17. Then I deleted that unwanted 'shell property' PID from that PIDs list.

18. Then before starting meshing I deleted unwanted hot points by using 'delete' option.

19. Then I started meshing with target length 5mm,So I selected mesh parameters and quality criteria and gave min. and max length as 3mm and 7mm.

20. Then using mesh length and by using perimeter and macros I given target mesh length as 5mm.

21.Then by using 'CFD MESHING' I done meshing on that pressure valve.

22. Then I checked how the meshing in spring portion and it is seen that meshing was not proper in spring.

CASE 2 (Target Length=3mm):
23. Due to the improper meshig on the spring,I opened the pressure valve geometry again and done meshing with target length 3mm.
24. For that I given min and max. length as 0.5mm and 5mm respectively. All other procedure meshing was same as above.Screen shots for that attached below:

25. Finally, Meshing created on the pressure valve with target lenth 3mm as seen below

26.But here also meshing on the spring was not proper. It was seen like below:

Case 3 (Target Length=1mm):
27. Due to the improper meshing on the spring with 3mm, I done meshing with target length 1mm.
28.Procedure for meshing was same as above and here I given min & max length as 0.5mm and 3mm.

29. Finally, I done meshing with target length 1mm on that pressure valve and here meshing on spring also came correct.

Learning Outcomes:
* Learned how to do geometry check and findout errors.
*Learned how to solve different geometrical errors by using different options and methods in ANSA.
*Learned how to do meshing with different target lengths.
*Learned how to check quality of mesh.
Result:
* Done surface meshing with three different target length as 1mm,3mm and 5mm.
Conclusion:
In conclusion , different types of geometrcal errors solved by using different options in ANSA and meshing done with three different target lengths as 1mm, 3mm and 5mm on the surface of pressure valve.
Note: Geometry files for three different cases are attached below
