Week -2
Question 1:- Make a Simulink model of Doorbell using solenoid block with the following details.
Answer :-
Following blocks to be used in this model:
1. Pulse generator: The Pulse Generator block generates square wave pulses at regular intervals. These pulses are converted from Simulink to physical signal by Simulink-ps converter and used to control the switch function.
amplitude:1, pules width:50, perid:10secs, phase delay:0.
2.Scope:- two number one in the input and other in the output.
3. DC Source:- 12 V. energiezes solenoid coil.
4.Simulink-Ps converter:- One No. converts simulink input signal to physical signal.
5.Circuit Breaker/Switch:- One No. to make and break the electrical circuit.
6.Ideal translational motion sensor: Physical movement of the solenoid coil is sensed by the Ideal translational motion sensor.
7.Solenoid: Converts Electrical energy into kinetic energy,
8.Electrical reference:- One No.
9.Mechanical Translational Reference:- One No.
10.PS-Simulink Converter:- Converts Physical signal to output simulink signal for simulink scope block.
11.Solver Configuration:- The Solver Configuration block specifies the solver parameters that your model needs before you can begin simulation. Each topologically distinct Simscape block diagram requires exactly one Solver Configuration block to be connected to it.
Result:- Input pulse signal plot, output signal plot and simulink model.slx files are attached as copy to clipboard.
a) According to the input Pulse signal duration when the switch remains closed for first 2 seconds then electromagnet receives electrical power from the DC source and pulls the lever and Ideal translational motion sensor sense that movement and gives the output by scope.
b)From the output plot, we can observe that the plunger got excited due to the electromagnet. After two second it returned to its initial position after some vibrations.
Question 2:- Use a thermistor to sense the temperature of a heater & turn on or turn off the fan as per the below conditions.
Temperature source: 20 °C from 0 to 10 seconds, 27 °C from 10 to 30 seconds, 23 °C from 30 to 50 seconds
Fan conditions: ON if the temperature above 25 °C, OFF otherwise.
Answer :-
Following blocks to be used in this model:
1.Thermistor: 1 No. Temperature sensing element, Negative temperature coefficient thermistor.
2.Controlled temperature source:- 1 No. The Controlled Temperature Source block represents an ideal source of thermal energy that is powerful enough to maintain specified temperature difference across the source regardless of the heat flow consumed by the system.
3.Signal builder: Y-axis is in kelvin scale and X-axis is for 50 secs. The Signal Builder block allows you to create interchangeable groups of piecewise linear signal sources and use them in a model. You can quickly switch the signal groups into and out of a model to facilitate testing. In the Signal Builder window, create signals and define the output waveforms.
4. DC voltage source: 120V The DC Voltage Source block implements an ideal DC voltage source. The positive terminal is represented by a plus sign on one port. You can modify the voltage at any time during the simulation.
5. voltage sensor: The Voltage Sensor block represents an ideal voltage sensor, that is, a device that converts voltage measured between two points of an electrical circuit into a physical signal proportional to the voltage.
6. switch: The Switch block passes through the first input or the third input signal based on the value of the second input. The first and third inputs are data input. The second input is a control input. Specify the condition under which the block passes the first input by using the Criteria for passing first input and Threshold parameters.
7.Electrical reference:- Two No.
8.Mechanical Translational Reference:- One No.
9.PS-Simulink Converter:- Two No. Converts Physical signal to output simulink signal for simulink scope block.
10.Solver Configuration:- The Solver Configuration block specifies the solver parameters that your model needs before you can begin simulation. Each topologically distinct Simscape block diagram requires exactly one Solver Configuration block to be connected to it.
11.Simulink-Ps converter:- One No. converts simulink input signal to physical signal.
12.Resistor:- The Resistor block models a linear resistor, described with the following equation.
13.Scope:- Two number one in the input and other in the output.
14.Controled volatge source:- 1 No.
15.Dc Motor block
16.Ideal Rotational Motion Sensor.
17.Mechanical Rotational Reference.
Result:- Input Signal Builder(Copy to clipboard), Output of PS-simulink converter (Copy to clipboard), Switch Output (Copy to clipboard), Angular velocity output (Copy to clipboard) and simulink model.slx files are attached as copy to clipboard.
switch Output and angular rotational velocity plots shows that switch is ON when the temperature is above 25 which is in an interval of 10 to 30 secs.
