Week- 2 Challenge

Question:

  1. Make a Simulink model of Doorbell using solenoid block with the following details:

In the above arrangement, when the switch is closed the electromagnet receives electrical power from the battery and pulls the metal arm to hit the bell producing sound.

Create a situation where the switch is closed for 2 seconds and then released. Observe the physical movement of the plunger.

Assume remaining parameters.

  1. Use a thermistor to sense the temperature of a heater & turn on or turn off the fan as per below conditions:

Temperature source: 20 °C from 0 to 10 seconds, 27 °C from 10 to 30 seconds, 23 °C from 30 to 50 seconds

Fan conditions: ON if the temperature above 25 °C, OFF otherwise

Solution

1.

Aim: To Develop Simulink Block for Doorbell using solenoid block

Theory:

What is a Solenoid?

A solenoid is a long piece of wire which is wound in the shape of a coil. When the electric current passes through the coil it creates a relatively uniform magnetic field inside the coil.

Solenoid Working Principle

The solenoid simply works on the principle of “electromagnetism”. When the current flow through the coil magnetic field is generated in it, if you place a metal core inside the coil the magnetic lines of flux are concentrated on the core which increases the induction of the coil as compared to the air core.

Simulink Block

Input Signal \ Pulse Generated

Velocity Signal Observer

Position Signal Observer

Conclusion: The Simulink Block for Doorbell using solenoid block has been developed and observed.

2.

Aim: To Develop Simulink Block for a thermistor to sense the temperature of a heater & turn on or turn off the fan

Simulink Block

Input Signal

The Input Signal is given as 20℃ i.e. 293.15 Kelvin for 0-10 seconds, 27℃ i.e. 300.15 Kelvin for 10-30 seconds, and 23℃ i.e. 296.15 Kelvin for 30-50 seconds. The input signal is generated in kelvins for air temperature.

Switch Output

The Switch is closed when the temperature level is above 25℃, as per our required condition time period of 20 seconds from 10 seconds to 30 seconds the switch is closed.

Fan Motor Output

Conclusion: The Simulink Block for a thermistor to sense the temperature of a heater & turn on or turn off the fan has been developed and the result of condition obtained.
