Week 14 challenge

AIM-Assemble and apply GD&T to the butterfly valve assembly drawing

As we know that we create multiple sub component for butterfly valve and for and in the same we have to assembled using the assembly constrain of butterfly valve.

The below component we have been used in the butterfly valve.

1. Butterfly valve body

2. Shaft

3. Retainer Plate

4. Lever handle

5. Disc plate

6. Nut

7. Screws

1. Butterfly valve body

The butterfly valve body is the housing of of main valve and it hold shaft reetainer plats lever handle etc.

2. Shaft

The shaft lever is the lever which disc plate will mounted on it shaft can rotate in certain angles with the help of lever. The gd&t drawing for shaft is given below.

3. Retainer Plate

Its the support provided for the saft and restrict the opening for shaft and shaft can easily rotates. Retainer plate screws with the valve body shown in above given pictures. The gd&t drawing for the retainer plate is given below.

4. Lever handle

The lever handel is used to rotate shaft at certain degress, one end of the handle is to fixed on the shaft of butterfly valve. The gd&t drawing is given for the lever handle is given below.

5. Disc plate

The disc plate is used to control the flow of the butterfly valve and its fixed with the help of the screws. the gd&t drawing is given for dic plate.

6. Nut

It used to hold the lever handle on shaft. the gd&t drawing for the given is below.

7. Screws

It used for assembly of retainer plate and disc plate in butterfly valve body.

GD&T for Butterfly valve assembly.

The above drawing clearly indicates that the gd&t for child components and now going to understand/explain the Butterfly valve assembly GD&T

lets discussed about the datum first the valve is mounted on the object when the two fascia comes in contact with the other hence we can called it as datum A shown in the given drawing.

lets constrain the valve body with respective datums. Now we know thw there is more then three holes are available on the butterfly valve body hence we can use datums target area,

By using arc command draw the overall referance cirlce ( i.e. two circle one is on the diameter & other is large diameter) on thes holes and used hatch command fill thes with hatching line's shown in given pictures. These areas called it as A1, A2 & A3. Flatness tolerance is to be provide only in that region why because we canot assigned the flatness tolerance to the datum A. due to the cost reduction we can consider only thes area.

The flatness value for the datum target area is 0.25 mm We know that form tolerance does not have datums.

the butterfly valve still not constrain so we can constrain the holes/mountings of the butterfly valve.

To find out the datums B & C

Now we can restrict the moment for the valve hence the perpendicularity tolerance for the hole dia 47 mm 0.25 mm at MMC with respective datum A, called it as datum B.

At leat we have the three datums for presice mesurement so lets calculate datum C. Position tolerance for the hole dia 47 mm 0.25 mm at MMC with respective datum A & B called it as datum C.

Also we can costrain the other dimensions shown in the given pictures i.e. the diameter of the 47 mm we have the position tolerance of 0.5 mm at MMC w, r, datums A, B & C at MMC called as datum D

In this way we have to restrict the holes dimensions using GD&T but the valve is mounted on bothe faces so need to defined the co-relation between thes mounting holes shown in pictures. The position for thes hole is to be control the concentricity with respective to the datums A, B, C & D shown in the GD&T drawing of the butterfly valve.

To contraol the height of the butterfly valve provide profile tolerance to control the height wit respective datums A.

In this way we have successfully complited the challenge of Butterfly valve design & its GD&T.
