Week 12 - Project-1
Objective:
To mesh the given component side door following the given criteria and assigning thickness to the elements.
Procedure:
1) Import the given component side door in the hypermesh, initially it will be displayed in wireframe mode as shown in the image below.
2) Then the surface highlighting option in the toolbar is selected to view the surfaces of the component as shown in the below image.
3) The component can be comfortably viewed by topology mode so that defects in the surface can be easily identified.
4) Then the component is splitted into four parts by using split surfaces along plane option in the surface edit panel.
5) Each of the parts is moved into different component collectors for easy identification of parts and meshing as shown in the below image.
6) Then after splitting the surface, each part of the surface is thoroughly checked before meshing. The features like fillet sizing less than the minimum element size should be defeatured.
7) The red colour displayed around the surfaces are defects needs to be corrected as shown in the below image.
8) After defeaturing the surface fillets it may lead to surface damage, which can be resolved by using the quick edit panel.
9) Each part of the component should contain green lines around the surfaces which denotes the surfaces are good.
10) Toggle unnecessary edges in the surface which may cause element fail during meshing process as shown in the below image.
11) Then finally all the parts of the component are displayed and checked for topology of the surfaces as shown in the below image.
12) Then after checking the geometrical topology of the surface, the component is subjected to the next process midsurfacing.
13) The midsurface of the component is extracted manually by offseting the outer surface of the component.
14) The outer surface of the component is offsetted to a distance half of its thickness. The thickness of the component is measured before offsetting.
15) Initially the outer surface of the component is subjected to midsurfacing as shown in the image below.
16) After that inner surfaces of the components are midsurfaced as shown in the below image.
17) After the midsurfacing is completed, the component is subjected to 2D meshing by clicking automesh.
18) Meshing is initially done for outer surface and then inner surface of the component. After meshing, the connectivity of the elements are checked.
19) The edges of the component are viewed after meshing is completed. The red lines in the below image represents the edges, it should be only around the surface not inside.
20) After meshing, the elements are checked as per the quality criteria given in this challenge as shown in the below image.
21) Then after checking the quality of the elements, thickness is assigned to the mesh by creating a property collector.
Conclusion:
Initially the component side door is checked for geometry and topology issues. After that, the given component side door is midsurfaced manually using offset command in the surface edit panel. After extracting the midsurface of the component, the meshing process is done by using automesh command. Then the connenctivity between the elements are checked. After that the elements are subjected to quality criteria check. Finally, the mesh surface is assigned thickness by creating property collector.
