Week 11 Challenge
Q.1 AIM AND INTRODUCTION- FRICTION LOAD DETERMINATION OF PIPE SUPPORT
A PIPE carrying LNG rests on the shoe having vertical force of 125 kN friction load on support is 0.3
and if TEFLON support is used the friction is reduced to 0.1.
Q.2 AIM AND INTRODUCTION- Identify the type of support as Spring, Guyed, Stop or Semi Anchor (Guyed + Rest + Stop or Rigid Strut from following images
FIG-1 - Spring type
FIG-2 - GUYED TYPE
FIG-3- SEMI ANCHOR
FIG-4 SEMI ANCHOR
FIG-5 SEMI ANCHOR
FIG-6a) RIGID TYPE
b) GUYED TYPE
Q.3 AIM AND INTRODUCTION - Design of piperack ( staad file is attached)
PROCEDURE - DATA GIVEN 3 TIER piperack Cable Trays at top
4 pipes at 2nd tier
6 pipes at 1st tier
with bay spacing 6 m and 7 bays

Frame is modelled in staad connect accordingly as loadings are not given by vendors the loading considered
Loading in piperack Structure dead load ( Ds) 1.9 kpa 1.9 x 6 =11.4 kn/m
Live load = 0.4 x 11.4 = 4.56 kn/m
Piping empty load ( De )= 0.6 x Do
Piping operating load ( Do) = 1.9 x 6 =11.4 kn/n
Piping Test load ( Dt) = 1.9 x 6 = 11.4 KN/m
Operating cable tray load (Dc ) = 1.9 x 6 = 11.4 KN/m
Friction load longitudinal - 0.1 of vertical load= 0.1 x 11.4 = 1.14 kn
Friction load tranverse - 0.1 of vertical load= 0.1 x 11.4 = 1.14 kn
in absence of vendor data the load combinations for strength an service loads not considered.

Piperack is modelled the given load is applied and design parameters are given

RESULT - PRELIMINARY DESIGN OF PIPERACK IS DONE IN ABSENCE OF VENDOR DATA THE DISPLACEMENT
MEMBER SECTIONS ARE CHECKED THE STAAD FILE IS ATTACHED BELOW.
