Week 11 Car Crash simulation

OBJECTIVE :-

  • To perform a parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body.
  • Analyse the total deformation and Equivalent stresses acting on the model

PROCEDURE:-

  • Open ansys work bench R2
  • selece explicit dynamics
  • rename the work if it necessary
  • select stainless steel non linear material from engineering data source
  • import geometry
  • rename its part properly
  • select stainless steel non linear material and assign it for car body
  • click parameter box provided in definition section ,input .3 mm as thickness for first case
  • insert symmetry in model section ,insert symmetric region ,select end side of wall as its scope
  • insert symmetric region ,select all edge of car body by edge filter tool
  • in connection section ,delete default contact ,keep body interaction as it is
  • in mesh section ,click generate mesh ,it any further adjustment needed insert sizing and adjust element size
  • in anlysis section input 0.001 s for end time
  • insert fixed support ,select its scope by selecting some part from back side of the car body
  • insert displacement ,select one side of wall as its scope ,input zero for x and y axis ,input 500 mm through tabular data for z axis
  • insert total deformation ,equivalent stress and equivalent strain from solution section
  • run solve

CONCLUSION:-

  • Total deformation is reduces with increasing thickness of car body
  • equivalent stress is maximum for car body having thickness of 0.5mm is 5006.34 MPa
  • equivalent strain less in 1 mm thickness body and is equal to 0.02366
