Week 10: Proportional Valve simulation
Proportional Valve Simulation
Introduction:
Proportional vavle provides the change in output pressure in the same ratio as the change in inlet pressure.
For example: If the input doubles then the output will also double.
Aim:
To perform a simulation in proportional valve,
- 3 cases without Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR)
- Lift = 3 mm
- Lift = 4 mm
- Lift = 5 mm
- 3 cases with Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR)
- Lift = 3 mm
- Lift = 4 mm
- Lift = 5 mm
- Run the case with FSI model and show the results.
Geometry:
The proportional valve geometry was imported in to the Converge and Diagnosis was done.

Comparison of without & with AMR
When we compare the result of mass flow rate, velocity, pressure force & total pressure without & with AMR though we have the same value this because of the SGS value which we have used in AMR but with AMR we are getting an actual physics flow because as we know the more we refined the mesh the more accurate results we get.
Case : 2:
In this case, we have carried out a Transient-state simulation with the FSI model & without AMR in order to see valve dynamics as inlet pressure changes.
The geometry part of this case is similar to the above case.
Case Setup:
- Application: General Flow
- Solver: Transient solver
- Material: Air
- Species: O2 and N2
- Simulation mode: Full hydrodynamic
- Simulation time parameters:
Start time:0 Sec
End time:1.6 Sec - Region & Initialization:
Created a region for initializing the setup - Boundary conditions
Inlet - Inflow - Pressure - input_pressure.in
Outlet - Outflow - Pressure - 101325 pa
Valve spindle - Wall - Law of wall
Casing - Wall - Law of wall -
Grid Control:
- Element size:dx = 0.004m, dy = 0.004m & dz = 0.004m
- Element size:dx = 0.004m, dy = 0.004m & dz = 0.004m
- Turbulence Model - K epsilon
