Hood Design Hood Outer Panel: Hood outer panel should not be welded on outside for the attractive purpose, therefore emboss is used to attach inner panel to outer panel. Emboss clearance outer panel to the inner panel should be 2mm. At the corners hemming should be low area to reduce stress. Hood Inner Panel: Hood inner panel is the critical part to design. The lower most surface length will be vary based on the engine side measurement. The upper most surface should be 0.2 mm clearance between outer panel and inner panel for the purpose of applying mastic glue. Hood inner panel should have embossed surface to distribute the load while hood hitting a man or any object. Hood panel always manufacture by deep drawing method so that the angle of the surface should be the maximum of 7 to 5 degree to get a good surface. Sharp edges should be filleted to reduce stress. The embossed surfaces need to have enough half circle surface for mastic to attach hood inner and outer. Hinge and striker mounting area should be flat surface for smooth rotating motion. Hinge: Hinge used for circular motion of the object. Hinge mounting area should be flat surface. Both hinges should be fixed in same axis, so that hood will move in proper motion. Striker: Striker used to lock and release the hood. Striker also need to be mount in flat surface. Striker should be tangent to the circle which has a centre of hinge axis. Striker catching should also to tangent to the circle.
