Week 10 - Challenge 3 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features

Draft Analysis of Door Trim Class A surface:

1. Ensured that there is no surface gap in the given Class A surface; by Visually checking using Join operation preview command and giving merging distance as 0.001mm (or it can also be verified using Bsoundary command).

2. Analyzed the component to identify best possible Tooling Direction (Core & Cavity).

Steps to evaluate Tooling Axis:
1. Created a Geometrical Set, named it Tooling Axis.
2. Checked the CLASS-A surface in all three direction X, Y, Z. And confirmed that Y direction is more suitable for TOOLING AXIS as most of the surfaces were visible in Y-direction.
3. Created a point in the Center of one of the two large Bottom Surface. And created a line in Y-direction & used it as Tooling Axis.
5. Carried out Draft Analysis on the Class-A with reference of dummy tooling axis with 2.9 degree draft.
6. As the Class A draft analysis showed mostly green with reference to the axis. Named the line drawn (in step 3 as TOOLING AXIS.
7. Then after creation of Closed Surface, Draft Analysis of Closed Surface was performed using the obtained Tooling Axis.

Draft Analysis:
Important step to perform prior to Draft analysis is to make sure that the View Mode is set to Material; then to proceed with the analysis.

Performed the following steps during Class A Surface analysis & Closed Surface Analysis:

1. After clicking draft analysis tool, used the compass to define new current draft direction.
2. Picked the red dot and dragged the compass near the component. Then held the dot and place it on the Tooling Axis. And clicked on the Lock symbol in Draft Analysis tool.
3. And selected the component to be analysed. As per the colour code, the Component colour changed to indicate that the Draft values are within certain defined range/ band.
4. Generally, draft analysis is passed when the colour is Green (i.e.above draft threshold) for the selected component.

Result of Draft Analysis:

Class A Surface: After analysis the surface turned green in all direction denoting the surface draft is more than 2.9 degree.

Solid Surface: After analysis with draft angle as 2.9 degrees, the bumper was shown in green mostly in all direction; except for Heat Stakes & Locator surface areas (as the draft for these features was choosen as 0.5 degrees). Hence, the draft analysis limit was changed to 0.45 degrees and it was cleared for all surfaces.
