Week 10 - Challenge 2- Attachment Feature Creation (Dog House)

AIM

To Design the dog house for door trim component.

Dog house

It is a plastic element which is used as a supporting element. in order to strengthen the screw boss, locator, push clips, they may occasionally used the dog house.

Class A surface

A Class A surface refers to the high-quality, visually appealing surface of a component, typically created by Class A designers using specialized software such as Alias Software. These surfaces are characterized by their aesthetic refinement and smooth transitions, making them suitable for exterior and interior automotive components

Tooling axis

Tooling axis is the reference axis along which the core and cavity of the plastic mold operate. It also serves as the primary reference for draft analysis to ensure the manufacturability and proper part ejection.

Draft analysis of CLASS A SURFACE

Class B surface

Class B surface is the offset surface derived from the Class A surface. Offset value is depends on the thickness of the final component. In this case, the component thickness is 2.5mm, Hence the class B surface is offset by 2.5mm.

Class C surface

Class C surface is an extension of class A surface, contributing the overall thickness of the component. To create the class A surface, first extract the boundary of the class A surface. then use the sweep command to generate the class C surface. The slop of the class C surface is determined based on the tolling axis and class A surface orientation

1) If the class A surface is normal to the tooling axis, 3 degree of draft angle must be applied

2) If the class A surface is parallel to the tooling axis, the class C should perpendicular to the Class A surface.

Final Product

Join the Class A and class C surface. Then trim the joined surface with class B surface to get the final product.
