Week 10 - Challenge 2- Attachment Feature Creation (Dog House)

DESIGN OF DOGHOUSE

A dog house is a secondary feature in plastic parts often used for reinforcement, snap-fit mechanisms, or as a mounting point for screw bosses. Its design is crucial to maintain structural integrity while minimizing material usage.

Purpose:

· Provide support for screw bosses or other mounting elements.

· Enhance part rigidity.

· Act as an assembly feature for snap fits or interlocking components.

Design guidelines:

· Doghouse wall thickness at the intersection of the part wall (C) should be 40% or less than the main wall stock (T).

· The height of ( B ) should be between 3.0 – 6.0 mm

· Fillet radius is 3mm radius

· Draft angle is 1.5 degree

Draft angle for inside of dog house is 0.5 degree.

For the Doghouse we have to use a side core .

For this design of plastic component thickness is 3mm.

Tooling axis for plastic component and Doghouse outside:

· Create a point on A class surface.

· Draw a line in y axis and it is tooling axis.

Tooling axis for Doghouse inside:

· Extract a surface on back of the Doghouse.

· Create a point on extracted surface.

Draw a line in x axis and it is tooling axis for inside of the Doghouse.

Draft analysis of A class surface:

Draft analysis of doghouse:

Draft analysis of solid surface:

thus i have created a doghouse design.
