Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge

OBJECTIVES

In this challenge, we have to simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket. You will need to use 3 different non linear materials for the bucket and analyse their behaviour for the same velocity of bullet. Apply the conditions for bullet as mentioned in the video itself and an animation to show the behaviour in the three cases is attached.

PROCEDURE

• First, we have to input the engineering materials with required properties or else by creating with required properties.

• Then we have to import our model into ansys, import the model and open it in space claim and cut the model into half so that the academic version support.

Analysis setting give the end time as le-002, maximum energy error is given as 7 to avoid energy error and Fix one end of the rod and then assign displacement load of 18mm in opposite direction of fixed load for tension test and angle for the torsion test.

CONCLUSION:

Based on the results, there is no change in the maximum Total Deformation in the bucket while the bullet is penetrating for all the three different cases and there is very little change in the minimum Total Deformation.

In the Equivalent Stress, we can find that the copper has the highest stress value compared to the others so that it can withstand higher impact without failure.
