Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge
Aim:- To simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket.
Objective:-
- Use 3 different non linear materials for the bucket.
- Analyse their behaviour for the same velocity of bullet.
Pre-Processing:-
Geometry:-
Behaviour of bucket is flexible and bullet is rigid because we want to analyse bucket
Material Selaction:-
AL 1100-O: Used for case 1
Aluminium Alloy NL: Used for case2
Copper Alloy NL: Used of case 3
Tantalum: Used for bullet in all cases
Connections:-
Body Interaction:-
Meshing:-
Edge Sizing:- element size in edge region is 5 mm
Element Matrics:-
Mesh:-
Analysis Settings:-
End time of simulation is 1e-2 and value of permissible energy error is 5%.
Fixed Support:-
Fixed support is provided to the lower end of bucket.
Velocity:-
Velocity of 1.39e+5 mm/sec is provided to bullet in negative X direction.
Solver Output:-
Case 1:-
Equivalent Stress
Case 2:-
Equivalent Stress
Case 3:-
Equivalent Stress
Results:-
Comparing all the cases withwith Equivalent Stress
| MAX | MIN | |
| AL 1100-O | 219.06 MPa | 0.84783 MPa |
| Aluminium Alloy NL | 1549.8 MPa | 5.1876 MPa |
| Copper Alloy NL | 3658.4 MPa | 7.9424 MPa |
Conclusion:-
- As the total deformation is taken into account it is same for all of above cases
- The penetration of bullet is totally dependent on the material density of the subjected material.
- For our experiment we can see that the maximum stress is developed in copper alloy NL . For which we can say that copper has shown the more resistance than other two cases.
