Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge
Objective:
To simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket, need to use 3 different non linear materials for the bucket and analyse their behaviour for the same velocity of bullet.
Procedure:
* Open ANSYS Work bench, from the analysis systems drop the Explicit Dynamics in Project schematic.
* Select required material from materials tab, In our case we need Tantulam (for bullet), any three NL materials for bucket.
* Import Geometry and open in design modular to check the geometry. Open in Mechanical module and rename the parts (if required) for easy identification purpose.
* Delete the default contacts which are not required for explicit dynamics.
* In the Mesh, Insert 6mm sizing for the both edges of bucket to get more accurate results at bullet penetration area.
* Analysis settings needs 1.e-002s end time and set the energy error as 5.
* Insert velocity and apply it to bullet with velocity of -139000mm/s in x-direction.
* Insert fixed support and apply it to bucket bottom face.
* Insert output results required to analysis. Total deformation and Equivalent stress are required. and click on the solution to start simulation.
Results: case-1 Aluminium alloy NL
Total deformation: 1399.5mm
Equivalent stress: 1046.8 MPa
\
Case2: Stainless steel NL
Total deformation: 1714.9mm
Equivalent stress: 4038.1 MPa
case3: Cooper alloy NL
Total deformation: 1129.2mm
Equivalent stress: 2602.2MPa
Energy Conservation Graph:
Conclusion:
In total deformation point of view Stainless steel NL > Aluminium alloy NL > Cooper alloy NL
In Equivalent stress point of view Stainless steel NL > Cooper alloy NL >Aluminium alloy NL
