Week 1 Understanding Different Battery Chemistry

Answer 1.

Battery  types Material

LCO

Cathode=Lithium Cobalt Oxide

Anode=Carbon or graphite

LMO

Cathode=Lithium Manganese Oxide

Anode=Carbon or graphite

NCA

Cathode=Nickle Cobalt Aluminum

Anode=Carbon or graphite

NMC

Cathode=Nickel Manganese Colbalt

Anode=Carbon or graphite

LFP

Cathode=Lead iron phosphate

Anode=Carbon or graphite

LTO

Cathode=Lithium Titanium Oxide

Anode=Carbon or graphite

Graphite and hard carbon material are commonly use for anode.

Electrolyte ethelyne carbonate , propelyne carbonate, H2SO4,ZnCl2, nickel and aluminium foils aslo present in the battery along with separators.

1.Chemical reaction at Anode

Electrode through which the convetional current enter in to a polarised electrical device.

2.Chemical reaction at Cathode

Electrode through which the convetional current leaves an electrical device. While discharge, negative electrode gives up electron and gets oxidized. Whrere as while charging negative electrode accept electron and gets reduced.

Discharge and charge chemical reaction

Pb+PbO2+2H2OSO4< ---->2PbSO4+2H2O

During discharge, the positive electrode accepts electrons from the external circuit, a process by which the electrode is reduced. During charge, the positive electrode gives up electrons to the external circuit and is oxidized. During discharge positively charge ions or cations move through the electrolyte towards the positve electrode.  And negative charge ions or anions move through the electrolyte towards the negative electrode.
