Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
Week 1 Challenge Plate With a Hole
1-Objective:
Design a plate with a hole with two different configurations and perform FEA to find out the maximum stress developed and deformation in each cases.
Case 1
Length -300mm
Height-120mm
Thickness-30mm
Hole at the center with Dia 60mm
Case 2
Length -300mm
Height-120mm
Thickness-30mm
Hole at the center with Dia 60mm
Two holes of 30mm diameter which are placed 90mm away from the center hole
Boundary Conditions
Apply a fixed support on left side of the plate and apply 500N force on right side face.

CASE1 0.00027MM 0.60MPa
CASE2 0.00029MM 0.58MPa
3.Selection Based on Manufacturing Point of View
By analysing both the models, the sress and deformation is very negligible and the difference in these values are also very small. So from manufaturing point of view the case 1 is very easy to manufature and less costlier.
4.Selection Based on Analysis Point of View
From analysis point of view the stress developed in case2 is little less for the same appliesd force and a weihgt reduction of part is achived by drilling extra two holes. From analysis point of view we can select the case 2
