Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
1. CASE 1:
In this case the maximum stress is around the hole. The maximum stress experienced is 0.17148 hbar.
The deformation in this plate when applied a load of 500N on the right face the maximum deformation caused is 0.00081621 mm.
CASE 2:
In this case the maximum stress is around the hole. The maximum stress experienced is 0.15569 hbar.
The deformation in this plate when applied a load of 500N on the right face the maximum deformation caused is 0.00084729 mm.
* Note- The data is calculated for time- 2seconds.
2. From, Analytical point of view, Case two developes a stress of 0.15569 hbar, So the life in case of case 2 will be more as compared to that of case 1.
Compromising in the deformation part, Case 1 deforms less when compared to Case 2 but the values are in few microns.
So, considering it neglible, We go for Case 2.
3. From, manufacturing stand point,
Though the stress devoeloped in case 1 is more but when considering the time for manufacturing, We would be increasing the number of process by having to drill/ Cut two more holes.
Hence increasing machine hour and man hour, basically increasing the cost of the same piece.
So, when we go for manufacturing, Case 1 should be considered as it would be appropriate.
