Week 1- Mixing Tee

To compare the mixing effectiveness in the given cases, we will perform CFD simulations using the k-epsilon and k-omega SST models. We will choose the more suitable model for further cases based on its performance. Here are the simulations and their results:

Case 1: Short Mixing Tee

Inlet Conditions:

Hot Inlet Temperature: 360°C

Cold Inlet Temperature: 190°C

Hot Inlet Velocity: 3 m/s

Simulation Parameters:

Models: k-epsilon and k-omega SST models (to be compared)

Momentum Ratios: 2 and 4

Simulation Results:

Cell Count: The number of cells used to discretize the computational domain.

Average Outlet Temperature: The average temperature at the outlet of the mixing tee.

Number of Iterations for Convergence: The number of iterations required for the simulation to converge.

For each momentum ratio, we will perform simulations using both the k-epsilon and k-omega SST models. Then, we will compare the results to determine the more suitable model for further cases.

Case 2: Long Mixing Tee

Inlet Conditions:

Hot Inlet Temperature: 360°C

Cold Inlet Temperature: 190°C

Hot Inlet Velocity: 3 m/s

Simulation Parameters:

Model: The more suitable model chosen based on the results of Case 1.

Additionally, we will provide the following outputs for each simulation:

Velocity and Temperature Contour Plots: We will plot the velocity and temperature distributions on cut planes along and across the pipe to visualize the mixing effectiveness.

Velocity and Temperature Line Plots: We will generate line plots showing the variations of velocity and temperature along the length of the pipe to observe the mixing behaviour.

Mesh Independence Study: We will perform a mesh independence study for one representative case to ensure that the simulation results are not significantly influenced by the mesh resolution. This involves running simulations with different mesh sizes and comparing the results to determine the required level of mesh refinement.

Discussion of Length and Momentum Ratio Effects: We will analyse and discuss the effects of pipe length and momentum ratio on the mixing effectiveness based on the simulation results obtained.

Furthermore, we will include the convergence plots to demonstrate the convergence behaviour of each simulation.
