CHALLENGE – 1

Answers :

Q1.

1. Steps involved in upload a .std file through web mail

· Open a staad pro and locate share option on the introduction screen

· Click share button and then select send mail option.

· Browse the staad. file in the location of machine and send it.

2. Different materials that can be used for designing in Staad. Pro. are as follows :

· Concrete,

· Aluminum,

· Steel,

· Stainless steel.

3. Possible to capture images in Staad pro :

· Yes

4. Three ways to make a model in Staad Pro. :

· Analytical model

· Physical model

· Building planner model.

5. Steps to assign properties in model :

· Proceed to property panel in model

· Select material option of list/display

· Select material from the list such as …..

Ø Concrete

Ø Steel

Ø Aluminum

Ø Stainless steel

· Assign material property to the model by options such as …

Ø Assign to selected beams

Ø Assign to view

Ø Use curser to assign

Ø Assign to edit list

Q2.

1. Six design parameters involved in RCC design:

· Clear cover

· Compressive strength of concrete

· Tensile strength of steel

· Max main dia of bars

· Code of practice

· End concrete design

2. Curser type available in Staad Pro :

· Nodes cursor

· Beams cursor

· Plates cursor

· Surface cursor

· Physical member cursor

· Solid cursor …..

3. Different views for a model:

· Top view

· Isometric view

· Bottom view

· Front view

· Rear view

· Left view

· Right view

4. Procedure to define a “Simply Supported” condition in STAAD Pro:

· Go to the support command in the tool pallet command

· Click on create support command

· There we can get option like fixed support, pin support , Fixed but,

Enforced but support, Cable support, Inclined support….

· Select Fixed support.

5. Five topics that will include while creating DBR.

· Name of the project and the location of the project.

· Structural Layout.

· Introduction to the construction methodology.

· Quality Assurance, Code of practice and Quality Control.

· Budget of the Project.

6. “Multi material design” of STAAD Pro.

· It is used for 3D model generation, analysis and multi -material design.

· The STAAD. Pro supports several steel, concrete and timber material in a separate member

· This separate member will cordinate and then formed in to a structure.

Q3.

1. Structure systems in STAAD Pro :

· Space

· Plane

· Truss

· Floor.

SPACE FRAMES: -

· The space frames are the three-dimensional truss like structures that is designed to carry loads for the longer spans without any intermediate supports. The space frame structures are rigid and ligh-weight in nature and it is structurally effective. It has low transportation cost.

PLANE FRAMES:-

· Plane frames are RCC or steel frame structures. It is a two-dimensional structure which is constructed with straight elements which are conected by the rigid or the hinged connections.

TRUSSES:-

· Trusses are created by arranging the structural elements in the triangle forms which can take loads in both compression and tension.

2. Explain the coordinate system adopted in STAAD Pro software.

The co-ordinates system that are adopted in STAAD Pro software are X,Y and Z co-ordinates. The co-ordinate system adopted in STAAD Pro software are:

· Global Axis:- Mainly global axis are fixed in the co-ordinate system.

· Local Axis :- Local axis is variable in nature. We can change the local axis but not the global axis.

3. Elaborate DBR and its uses.

DBR ( Design Brief Report ) is a project management document which consist of various informations regarding the construction of the structure. This DBR is a detailed report which tells each and every minute details of the ongoing construction work. It defines the final stage in the process of defining the Client's requirement for the construction work. This report basically consist of all the major and important structural details that is relevant or we can say that is related to the project like description of the client, site information, special requirements if any,the technical requirements, components required, the project requirements and the other issue related to the construction.

4.Different types of analysis options in STAAD pro.

· Linear Elastic analysis.

· P-Delta analysis.

· Buckling analysis.

· Pushover analysis.

· Perform Analysis…..

6. Difference between Fixed and Fixed But condition.

Fixed condition: -

Fixed condition in the STAAD Pro software is the condition where all the degrees of freedom (horizontal or vertical or moment) are fixed or these conditions are restrained we cannot change accordingly. Those condition we can say are the fixed conditions.

Fixed-But condition: -

The fixed- end condition we can say that this condition can be customized its end conditions accordingly. In this condition we can change the end condition it is not restrained. We can release some of the required degree of freedom.

PRACTICAL:

· Beam of span 16m
Support: Fixed on one end and Roller support (Horizontal) on the other end. A point load of 50 kN at the mid-point. Draw SFD and BMD using software.

PROCEDURE :

  • Open the STAAD Pro Software and Create a New Model
  • The first step is to initiate the project in staad.pro
  • This can be done by clicking on the new option available on the STAAD intro screen.
  • After clicking on the new model, we should go for project details.
  • Thereafter we will be asked to specify a location within your system.
  • Then, click on create to start a new project.

  • Assign Support Conditions
  1. Go to support>add>fixed>select one node>assign to selected nodes>enter.
  2. Similarly, create another node>fixed but>release moments and horizontal restraints>ok>select the other node>assign to selected>ok.

Fixed support at one end

Roller support at another end.

· Give properties to the beam width and thickness

  • Assign the Proposed Load

  • Go to loads>create>member load>global Y>-50KN>d1-8, d2-0>OK.
  • Now, select the load and beam and check the radio button for assign to selected>apply>ok

Run the Analysis

  • Select the analysis method that is perform analysis from the design and analysis panel.
  • Once it is done with setting up the analysis method, run the analysis from the analysis and design panel.
  • Wait for some time till the analysis to get completed and look for errors and warnings.

  • Draw SFD and BMD

Will proceed to the post-processing mode>select the load cases>click apply>ok.

  • Then, all the analysis results will be automatically visible on your STAAD screen.
  • Select beam results>Mz for bending moment>Fy for shear force diagram.
  • Make sure to check the annotate option to view the values along with the diagrams as inserted below:
  • Bending moment Diagram
