Week 1 Challenge

Aim:To find out between truss A and Truss B which is the most effecient in carrying gravtiy load?

Introduction:

Truss A - Pratt truss and truss B Howe truss

Procedure:

Truss A forms "N" shape pattern. Here the diagonal memebres develop tensile force and Vertical members take Compression forces, which infers that digonal members resist axial tensile forces and Vertical resists buckling.

Truss B is the opposite case of Truss A where the Vertical members in tension and diagonal members in compression.

Truss A has zero force at ends whereas Truss has no force at center according to the diagram below showing the tension and compression forces in Truss A and Truss B.

Result:

As tower A has more loading points compared to Truss B, it is inferred that with loading of members at bottom chord it is possible to increase the gravity load carrying capacity of the truss. Therefore, it is the Trussr A which is more capable of carrying gravity load compared to Truss B.
