Volume mesh for Rear view Mirror

Objective – To clear all the topologcical errors and volume mesh the rear view mirror with the given quality criteria.

Solution – First we check if there are any topological errors by geometry checks. There are no errors.

If we hide some surfaces we see that the mirror is not a single volume. It has a surface in side it. So we delete all the unwanted surfaces and patch the single cons.

Now we set the mesh parameters with minimum and maximum length and quality criteria for shell and solds and tet collapse.

Now we surface mesh the rear view mirror with ortho tria on the curved surfaces and normal tria on the flat surfaces.
We change the lengt to 1mm

This is done because for the curved surfaces if we use normal tria’s on curved faces there may be some kinks or dents on the surfaces.
Now after meshing we check for quality and fix the quality of failing elements.
There may be some elements failing for minimum length. But keep the feature line.
Thus the surface mesh is done consisting of ortho trias and normal trias.
Now for volume mesh. We go to volume mesh mode.
First we need to define the volume.
Then as we define it we can see it in the list.

Now we go to unstructured mesh>>Tetra FEM and volume mesh the entire model.
In this case we are using Tetra FEM but if we want we can use Tetra rapid also.
Tetra rapid is a different algorithm in ansa which can also generate unstructured mesh.
After executing the tetra FEM a volume mesh is generated. If we hide some area using not function. We see that the volume mesh is generated and it is unstructured.

For the first couple of rows it follows a structure and then it is unstructured.
For the quality of the mesh we see there are a few elements off. So we can use fix quality option to fix the quality of mesh.

Conclusion –

Thus we clear all errors and volume mesh the side mirror.
