Underbody Coating
Underbody coating is a thick layer of fiberglass, rubber, ceramics etc. applied to the underbody of automobiles in order to avoid corrosion and reduce wear and tear. The thickness of coatings is specified in respective countries. The violation of these rules may create problems. The thickness is measured using an instrument called as elcometer.
Types of underbody coating :
1) Rubberised coating
2) Wax based coating
3) Polyurethane coating
4) Asphalt coating
Pros of underbody coating :
1) Avoid corrosion : Due to damage metal may get exposed, which may result in corrosion hence coating is necessary.
2) Reduce damping of sound i.e. noise
Cons of underbody coating :
1) Too expensive
2) Blocking of some suspension components
