Underbody Coating

Under body coating:

  • Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car's underbody. It also protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.
  • The main purpose of undercoating is to check rust especially in the body components like frame rails along with other exposed metal parts. Underbody coating can also reduce wear and tear.
  • Using an aftermarket underbody coating offer extra protection. The thicker underbody coatings used on cars also act as effective sound dampeners. They can reduce road noise and tyre noise and make the cabin seem quieter – due to the sound absorptive nature of rubberized paints.
  • Underbody coating is usually a dense cladding (often based on rubber) applied uniformly to the undercarriage of the automobile.
  • UNDERBODY COATING Underseal (often called undercoating in the U.S.) is a thick resilient coating applied to the underbody or chassis of an automobile to protect against impact damage from small stones, which would rapidly chip ordinary paint, allowing rusting to begin.
  • Apply the undercoating liberally to the underbody of your vehicle. Make sure to apply it to every part that you expect to be exposed to the road. Allow this coat to dry for at least an hour, or longer if the instructions call for it.
  • Wax or rubberized undercoating should only be applied to a new rust-free surface. One where you can see and ensure 100% coverage. It is important that the vehicle is inspected every couple of years to ensure that the barrier has not been breached.

PURPOSES OF UDER-BODY COATING:

  1. Rustproofing and undercoating your vehicle can protect it from corrosion and rust. This is especially important for the undercarriage of your vehicle, which commonly comes into contact with substances such as water, chemicals such as salt, and other dirt and debris from the road.
  2. The main purpose of undercoating is to check rust especially in the body components like frame rails along with other exposed metal parts.
  3. A uniform black underbody coating gives a car a clean look. It also makes the car easier to maintain by just hosing the underside down.
  4. Undercoating reduces road noise when properly applied to your car.
  5. Two layers of undercoat should cover any darker paint finishes underneath and also helps to build a better base for the gloss coat.

TYPES OF UNDER-COATING:

  1. Rubberized Undercoating
  2. Polyurethane Undercoating ·
  3. Wax or Paraffin-Based Undercoatings ·
  4. Asphalt-Based UNDERCOATINH

Rubberized Undercoating : Rubberized Undercoating is an easy-to-use black rubberized protective coating. It provides corrosion protection from water, salt and other chemicals.

Polyurethane Undercoating : This type of sealant works by seeping into all cracks and seams, displacing salt and moisture and oozing around rusty areas to bond with and protect unoxidized metal. It also sands quickly in case you'll need to perform bodywork and can be painted over.

Wax or Paraffin-Based Undercoatings : A paraffin-based undercoating will be the cheapest and quickest option available with which to protect the undercarriage of your vehicle. However, it will wear off quicker than other types of undercoating and will need to be stripped and reapplied at least once every year.

Asphalt-Based UNDERCOATINH : Asphalt undercoating has the benefit of being less expensive. They protect anywhere up to 5 years and dry to a Firm to Hard coating.

Pros of undercoating :

  1. protection against corrosion and rust.
  2. Extend the life of vehicles.
  3. covers small damages.
  4. Reduces the noise inside the car.
  5. It can be seif applied.

Cons of undercoating :

  1. It is less helpfull if corrosion is already present.
  2. It works best on new cars.
  3. Most vehicels make it five years before corrsion begins to show.
  4. A third-party under coating service might void your vehicle's warranty.
