Underbody Coating

REPORT

UNDERBODY COATING

ABSTRACT

Underbody coating is a thick cladding (typically made of rubber) that is placed uniformly to the car’s underside. When the automobile is fresh off the lot and spotless, it is usually sprayed or painted on. But it’s acceptable if you apply the undercoating after a couple of years.

ED Coating is known by many names like Electrodeposition, Electropheretic, Electrophoresis Coating, Cationic E-Coat and Cathodic Electro. It is an coating method that uses electrical current to deposit paint onto a part or assembled product. Because of its ability to coat even the most complex parts and assembled products with specific performance requirements, ED Coating is used throughout industry as a means to coat products in various categories such as: automobiles, automotive parts.

ED COATING PROCESS

This is a process where water based paint consisting of Pigment, Resin and Solvent is electroplated or coated on either ferrous or non-ferrous surface. This is usually found in automobile body parts as a prime coat before spray painting. With features like high throwing power; evenness in coating thickness and high corrosion resistant.

HEATING CHAMBER

Induction hardening is commonly used in the automotive industry, as it can quickly and selectively harden the surface of metal parts. In this method, a copper coil is placed near the surface of a metal component, which allows heat to transfer to the metal. Once it is quenched, the material is significantly harder than it was previously.

PREMIER COATING

The primer serves several purposes like levelling the surface of the body, overcoming manufacturing defects if any. The primer also prevents the body from rust, heat differences, stone chips, UV light

Applying the sealant Prepare the sealant as directed on its container. ...

Patching uncoated areas New, unsealed parts fitted to a sealed underbody should be treated with sealant as soon as possible. ...

Preparing the car Mask the exhaust system with cardboard and newspaper held with masking tape

PAINTING

  • Paint shop is the kind of parlor for cars, the aesthetic look of the cars are prepared here in this paint shop.
  • Priming, painting, etc. are some processes perform in this shop.
  • The spraying booth contains full of air vents and lights.
  • Air vents producing air pressure at 0.25 bar on the car.
  • The lights are used for visual clearance.
  • Use plastic painter for plastic parts e.g. bumper, mirror, back bumper.
