Underbody Coating

About Under-Body Coating:

Under-Body Coating is basically a coating which helps to prevent corrosion and rust which forms in the underbelly of automobiles. It does have various purposes but mainly it is used to prevent corrosion.

Other purposes are as follows:

1. It also helps in minimizing the sound which is generated under the automobile.

2. It insulates the vehicle's interior from temperature which is generated in a very extreme manner beneath the vehicle.

3. Most Under-body coatings comes with anti chipping property which works as a shield as vehicles approaches bad roads and bumpy roads. It basically safes the underbody of the car from rock chips and stones which are present on the road.

4. It prolongs the life of an automobile which is like really necessary in present global warming situation.

5. It protects the underbody from water and other chemicals too.

Automotive Coating Process consists of 5 Steps and those steps are as follows:

1. Pretreatment, which is basically cleaning of vehicle's underbody before we apply coating. It enables the vehicle's underbody to bond with corrosion protection layer.

2. In this step, Electrodeposition is performed on the anti corrosion layer.

3. A sealer like PVC which is Poly Vinyl Chloride is applied to minimize the water leaks, vibration noises and mainly chipping.

4. After that primer is applied to form bond between the body and the basic coat which is already applied in the previous processe. It helps in providing smoother surface and anti chipping properties to vehicle's underbody.

5. Finally, Top coat is applied which includes base coat and clear coat. It provides ultimate layer to the vehicle which helps in gaining weather resistance and smoothness and minimization of vibration noises in the vehicle.

There are various types of Under-Body coating processes:

1.Wax based Under-Body Coating- These are the kind of underbody coating which uses wax as a coat and it is the cheapest option available in the market. It does last only one year as a whole.

2. Asphalt based Under-Body Coating- These are the the kind of underbody coating which is most commonly used in LCVs which are Light Commercial Vehicles. It provides sufficient protection from rock chips and stones and moistures. It also helps in reduction of noise from the underneath of the vehicle.

3. Rubberized Under-Body Coating- These coatings are very easy to apply and provides soft cushioning in the underneath of the vehicle. It also prevents rust and corrosion because it provides rubber coating.

4. Polyurethane Under-Body Coating- These are the coatings which are very easy to apply and also takes very less time to apply. This type of coating always require pre tretment of suface which this coating is gonna be applied too.
