Underbody Coating

UNDERBODY COATING :underbody parts are mainly structure elements are panels placed in the lower part of the vechicle including the whole vechicle platform.

ANSWER

  • The main reason for in indian road conditions getting an underbody coating is rusting and corresion there are not phsically accessible  but are prone to corresion.
  • The main purpose of undercoating is to check rust especially in the body components like frame rails along with other exposed metal parts .
  • underbody coating is usually a dense cladding often based on rubber applied uniformly to the undercarrige of the automobile.
  • It is the protective coating given to the car’s underbody to protect it from corrosion and from being damaged.
  • It’s a rust – preventable coating outside of the vehicle.
  • There are types of under body coating based on the type of damage and the type of protection the vehicle needs.

BENEFITS

• Minimizes Sound: It minimizes the sound from underneath the car resulting a noiseless, smooth driving experience.

• Heat Insulation: It insulates the interior of the car from extreme temperatures from beneath the vehicle providing a comfortable cabin experience.

• Anti-chipping property: If any stone hits the coating it does not get chipped away hence protects the underbody from exposure to water.

TYPES OF UNDER COATING

  1. Rubberized  underboby Coating –This is generally thought of as the best underbody coating for your car. It preserves the underbody well, protecting it from scratches. Applying this to the undercarriage is not much of a hassle either. Used for protection from dust, moisture and dings and it is safe to apply on the wheel wells and panels. It has a thickness of 2-3mm.
  2. Polyurethane underbody  Coating - This coating closes up splits and fractures on the underbody of the vehicle. It offers up good protection against corrosion and also bonds with the metal. Unlike in the case of asphalt-based coating, you can paint over the polyurethane coating. This type of sealant works by seeping into all cracks and seams, displacing salt and moisture and oozing around rusty areas to bond with and protect unoxidized metal. It is quick and easy to apply.

  3. wax Based  underbody Coating -This – more or less – ephemeral undercoating will wear away in a few months’ time. On the upside, wax-based undercoating puts up a big fight against moisture. It is also the most affordable option out there.

  4. Asphalt based automotive Coating –Best suited for lorries, trucks and large vehicles this provides a greater degree of protection compared to rubber-based coatings. However, asphalt-based coatings contain little amounts of rubber for sound-insulation purposes. The process of applying this coating is a bit time-consuming though. Used for heavy trucks and vans for protection from rocks, chips and moisture and gives a greater durability.

The Vehicle Undercoating Pros and Cons

Your car or truck is an important part of your everyday world. It takes you back and forth to work, takes the kids to school, and is there for you to run errands, haul supplies, and a myriad of other tasks. Beyond all this, it is also one of the largest investments you will make. New vehicles are quite expensive, and you want to make sure that you do all you can to help your car last as long as possible. Preventing rust and corrosion to the body of the car is just one way to help your vehicle and understanding th can help you to see if it is something worthwhile for your vehicle.

Pros of Undercoating

The obvious pros of undercoating are the protection it provides to the carriage of your vehicle. If you live in an area where salt and sand are used on the roadways in cold weather, these materials can be corrosive to your vehicle. Undercoating gives you an extra layer of protection against rust and corrosion, protecting your car. Undercoating will eventually wear out, but you can get years of protection from it. Even vehicles in warmer climates gain protection as debris is repelled and kept away from eating at the vehicle.

Cons of Undercoating

When examining the vehicle undercoating pros and cons, you do want to look at potential downsides to getting undercoating. Undercoating will work best on new vehicles that have not been exposed to road conditions. A used vehicle may already have residue on the bottom of the car or even have spots of rust and corrosion. Undercoating will not help you if corrosion already exists and the corrosion needs to be removed first before it can be applied, which can be expensive for you.
