transient structural analysis on a double universal joint

Universal Joint

Question- For this challenge, you will have to perform a transient structural analysis on a double universal joint with a spring using three different materials: Structural Steel, Stainless Steel and Titanium alloy(They can all be found in the General Materials section) The three materials must be used on the joint with the springs alone. Use a refined mesh if possible for the academic license. You need to obtain the Equivalent stress and total deformation for all the three cases and compare them.

Case 1:

Structural Steel

Stress values-

maximum stress-1909.7 MPa

Total Deformation -

maximum deformation- 38.637 mm

Case 2:

Stainless Steel

Stress values-

maximum stress-1846 MPa

Total Deformation -

maximum deformation- 38.637 mm

Case 3:

Titanium alloy

Stress values-

maximum stress- 929.71 MPa

Total Deformation -

maximum deformation- 38.637 mm

The stress values can be compared in all the cases and we find the least value for titanium, this can be justified keeping in mind that it is a very strong material and it has high young\'s modulus.

Total deformation as can be seen is same in all cases.
