TO DESIGN AND ANALYSE THE MOTION STUDY OF IC ENGINE VALVE MECHANISM
AIM: TO DESIGN AND ANALYSE THE MOTION STUDY OF IC ENGINE VALVE MECHANISM USING SOLIDWORKS.
OBJECTIVE:
- To create 3D models for all parts.
- To perform motion analysis by rotating the input cam at 1500 rpm.
- To obtain a plot for Valve lift.
- To obtain a plot for contact force between cam and push rod.
- To obtain a plot for contact force between push rod and rocker arm.
- To obtain a plot for contact force between rocker arm and valve
- To export the results to a spreadsheet.
- To create motion study for two conditions-

OVERVIEW AND CALCULATION:
Engine valves are used in engines to allow air or air-fuel mixture to enter into the cylinder (through inlet valve) and also to push exhaust gases (through outlet valve) from the cylinder at a specific time during the engine cycle.
A complete mechanism is involved in actuating the inlet and exhaust valves (opening & closing) through the motion of different components come in valve train. A cam is used as a drive to actuate the valve and this cam rotates at half of the speed of crankshaft in a four-stroke engine. Following are the various components of valve train.
- Cam
- Push rod
- Rocker arm
- Valve
- Valve mount
Calculation-
For Cam lift 3.5 mm:
D1 = 25 mm R1 = 12.50 mm
D2 = 10 mm R2 = 5 mm
L = 10.5 mm
For Cam lift 6 mm:
D1 = 25 mm R1 = 12.50 mm
D2 = 10 mm R2 = 5 mm
L = 13.5 mm
