Project

Snap Fit analysis of a Plastic Buckle

Objective: To Simulate the Snap-Fit analysis For Plastic Buckle-Clip

Case1: Moving the clip by keeping the buckle fixed.

Case2: Moving the buckle by keeping the clip fixed

Geometry

Material

  • POM is used For both Buckle and clip

Connection

Contact

  • Frictional type of contact is created between the clip and buckle with frictional coefficient as 0.2

Mesh

Body sizing is given for the buckle components

Element size 5mm

Case1: Moving the clip by keeping the buckle fixed.

Analysis Setting

Boundary Conditions

  • Fixed support is given to the Buckle
  • Displacement is given to the Clip Along -z axis

Case 2 Moving the buckle by keeping the clip fixed

Analysis Setting

Due to Convergence Issues

  • Auto Time Stepping is set On
  • Minimum and Maximum Time Step is Defined

Boundary Condition

  • Fixed support is given to the Clip
  • Displacement is given to the buckle Along z axis

Post Processing

  • Equivalent Stress For Clip
  • Total Deformation for the Clip
  • Contact Pressure

Solution Ouput

CASE 1

Equivalent Stress For Clip(4.3558Mpa)

Total Deformation for the Clip(49.806mm)

Contact Pressure(Max 15.481MPa)

CASE 2

Equivalent Stress For Clip(11.509Mpa)

Total Deformation for the Clip(2.3583mm)

  • Since the Buckle is moving the clip is fixed 2.3583mm is Max Deformation along X axis

Contact Pressure(Max 34.546MPa)

Conclusion:

In this report We Performed Snap Fit Analysis For Buckle & Clip with Two cases without any Convergence issues
