- BELOW POINT NEEDS TO BE FOLLOWED WHILE DESIGNING THE HOUSE AS PER VASTU SHASTRA.
- The site should be a square or a rectangle. If possible southwest corner should have 90 degree.
- Balcony towards north, east and northeast are preferable.
- Kitchen is advisable in south east or northwest but never in northeast.
- Staircase should be provided in the south, west or southwest and should be avoided in northeast because head room of the staircase higher than southwest is not acceptable.
- It is good to have main door on east, northern and north eastern corner of the house. A house having main door at the southwest end provides less peace and perpetually tense atmosphere.
- Wall of house should have soothing and soft colors on walls as this gives a tension free atmosphere. Deep yellow, red or orange colored walls give irritation to the occupants.
- All water related appliances or resources of the house should be placed on north east area. This provides prosperity.
- A well or a tube well should never be provide on the southeast end of the house. A well or tube well at center of the house brings good luck to its head.
- AC equipment should be kept in southeast of the complex and should never be installed in northeast under any circumstances.
- Persence of plants of Tulsi, Banana, Champa, Ashoka, Aawla outside the house keeps inhabitants healthy, happy and peaceful.
- CALCULATION DEAD LOAD OF INDIVIDUAL STRUCTURE ELEMENTS
Points to keep in mind before calculating the Dead load.
1 - Unit weight of RCC members - 25kN/m³.
2 - Unit weight of Brick masonry - 20kN/m³
3 - Unit weight of PCC - 24kN/m³
STEP-1 = To calculate the dead load of columns
Size of one column - .225m x .525
Height of columns - 2.74m
Total volume of concrete in one column - 0.323m³.
Dead load of a column - unit weight of a column multiple by unit weight of RCC
Dead load of a column - .323 x 25 = 8.09kN.
Total number of columns ground floor is 14NOS
Dead load of columns in ground floor = 8.09 x 14 = 113.28kN .
Dead load of columns in 1st floor is same as ground floor - 113.28kN.
Total Dead load of columns= 226.56kN
STEP-2 = To calculate the dead load of beam
Size of beam - .225mm x .450mm
Length of beam in running meter in each floor = 84.75m
Total volume of concrete in beam = .225 x .525 x 84.75 = 8.58m³
Dead load of beam in each floor = unit weight of beam multiple by concrete quantity = 8.58 x 25 = 214.52kN.
For two floor total dead load of beams = 472.74 x 2 = 429.04kN.
STEP-3 To calculate Dead load of slab
Size of slab - 9m x 17m
Thickness of slab - .125m
Total volume of concrete in slab = .125 x 9 x 17 = 19.125m³
Dead load of slab = volume of concrete multiple by unit weight of RCC members= 19.124 x 25 = 478.125kN
Total dead load of two slab - 2 x 478.125 = 956.25KN.
STEP-4 To calculate Dead load of wall
Thickness of wall = 225mm
Height of wall - 2700mm
Length of wall in running meter = 99.3m
Total volume of 9" brick work= 60.32m³
Dead load of wall = volume of wall multiple by unit weight of wall = 60.32 x 20 = 1206KN.
Thickness of wall = 100mm
Height of wall = 2.7m
Length of wall in running meter = 50.15m
Total volume of 4" brick work = .100 x 2.7 x 50.15 = 13.53m³
Dead load of 4" brick = 13.53 x 20 = 270.84kN
TOTAL DEAD LOAD OF BUILDING = 3,087.85KN
- CALCULATION OF LIVE LOAD
The live load is considered as per the IS 875 part 2 code standards.
- Except the structural components other load cases related to the floor loads related to the moveable or non movable loads are considered in this type load.
- For the residential buildings generally we will consider 2.5 kN/m2 to 4 kN/m2.
- For this project I am considering the 3kN/m² of load acting on the floor .
Floor size - 9m x 17m = 153m²
Total live load= 153 x 3 = 459kN.
- CALCULATION OF WIND LOAD
If the height of the building is more than 10m then the building needs to be designed for wind load
For this project the wind load is neglected because the height of building is less than 10m.

Setting out Plan = These Plans include site layout proposal with built structure and its positioning according to references of markings or grid layout marked on the Site. It is used for marking the position and orientation of the structure according to the description provided by the architect.
Floor Plans = These blueprints depict the architect’s design as a scaled drawing showing a view from above through an imaginary horizontal sectional plane.
Architectural floor plans are provided for construction of elements (walls, columns, trenches, etc) through markings and detailed dimensional distance from them concerning the Centreline grid .
These plans also include reference markings of any detail that requires any certain specification according to design. These specific details are separately shown for better readability and emphasis.
Sections and Details = Sections are drawings depicting vertical sectional plane projections of the building showing its Interior and Exterior profiles and vertical dimensions of elements.
Various forms of depiction of material, techniques, heights and openings are emphasized through lines and graphic conventions in Sections.
Elevations and Finish Details = Design Resultant of a building in architectural drawings is depicted through Elevations.
Elevations are referential for the contractor or building to keep a check on how the building should shape after completion.
Opening Schedules = Door-Window Schedules are a way of presenting complicated details of different doors and windows.
It tabulates individual sizes, dimensions, and typologies of fenestration covering specified as per design.
Trench Plan or Excavation Plan = On-site excavations or execution of Trenches for Sub-Structure of the building requires a plan where all the trenches are marked according to Grid of centreline markings and the offsets of dimensions respectively.
Trench Plan highlights the dimensions (Length, Breadth, Depth) of trenches to be to excavated with reference to Centreline Grid.
It is required at an early stage, immediately after marking Centreline on-Site.
Foundation Plan = Structural drawing which has foundation notations with the dimensions (Length, Breadth, Thickness) of the column pad concerning the column placement according to the Centreline Grid markings.
It also suggests the typology of the foundation to be used with any discreet specifications.
Column Layouts = Column Layouts are used for erecting columns on site as per project design
These are referred onto the site for marking column placement, size and specifications of details of the column design.
Any column on the layout has a certain Grid Coordinate on Centreline Grid that is used as its Column Nomenclature.
Plinth Beam Layouts = It is used for marking the Tie beam (Primary element for ‘Earthquake Resistant Structure’) which is used for connecting the columns emerging from the Sub-Structure (structure beneath the ground level) of the building.
This layout gives the orientation of the Tie Beam to the column and also the Cross-section sizes with specifications of the design.
Roof Beam and Slab Layouts = It includes the layout of roof slabs concerning the corresponding beam by the Centreline Grid Markings of Columns-Beams.
This involves the orientation of the roof slab and Reinforcement Bar Details to be incorporated according to Structural Design.
Details like diameter and number of reinforcement bars in a defined length are mentioned in roof slab layout for structural stability.
Centreline Plans = Centrelines are grids that mark the positioning of any structural or non-structural element on-site about a coordinate on the grid.Centrelines are depicted as Dash-Short Dashed line-type in drawings.
It passes through the center or in the alignment of a column, or wall, or any demarked element to reference its position according to the grid as shown.
