Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code

Aim

A G+1 floor residential plan, according to Vaastu shastra.

Introduction

We are seeing about the building details according to Vaastu shastra, plan and load calculation for (G+1) Ground floor 1231 sq.ft + First floor 1231sq.ft Residential duplex house of total build up area is 25’ x 49’3” = 2462 sq.ft in land area of 34’6” x 61’9” totally 2013 sq.ft

Centre line drawing

  • The central and drawing which is the first structural drawing that need to be provided.
  • While it's called central line drawing
  • It is used for the marking the column of the site at the first stage of the construction, using this drawing it helps to mark the column position in the ground and that is where excavating the soil to providing the footing for the column.
  • It should correctly show all the dimensions for the grid positions.
  • Before drawing there should be template provided where we provide all notes over right side.
  • This centre line drawing contains all the grid line positions as the same as provided in the architectural drawing.
  • The dimensions are provided for all columns or with respective to the grid
  • All the column should be numbered and dimension should be provided from the centre of the grid and outside of the column, it will be very easy to civil engineer to mark position in the site.
  • The great to grid position is provided in the outside.

Footing and column layouts with reinforcement details

  • Once we have done the column positions we have given the centre line drawing the same dimensions and positions need to be followed in this footing drawing where will be showing the size of the footing as per the design the requirement and the same way the dimensions of the footing from the grid position also need to shown in the drawing.
  • When we doing the drawing, we should cheque whether there is a footing clash between two footings lift wall footing if it is so we have to reduce the size of the footing if it is not possible to reduce the size of the footing, then we need to increase the size of the footing either if it is horizontal An it is vertical along the Y-direction or make it an eccentric footing.

Column schedule with reinforcement details

  • It is mandatory that we provide the typical reinforcement drawing, if it is a footing layout with details we provide typical layouts drawings.
  • The section of the footing drawing should be provided with thickness of the PCC and thickness of the sand filling.
  • We should show the drawing of the reinforcement detail of the footing and column crank and LD distance how ties are provided everything should be provided
  • For example C1: 9” x 1’

4- Y16 2 denotes the number of the rods.

16 denotes the size of the rods

2- Y12 2 denotes the number of the rods.

12 denotes the size of the rods

Y8 stirrup : 8 denotes the stirrups

@ 8 “ C/C = centre to centre

Plinth beam layout with the reinforcement details.

  • We have to provide the column that are connected by beams at the plinth level these beams will be resting on the soil
  • after completing the footing and sand filling in it we come up with the plinth beam shuttering.

For example PB1 (9” × 1’”).

  • So we have to provide the great too great dimension for better understanding the drawing with the column dimensions.
  • The more you provide a dimension the more it is self-explanatory, if we reduce the dimension in some point they will be having some what position they need to be provided.
  • the main thing is numbering the grouping of plinth beam according to the size whatever it is then you can add it reinforcement one and same plinth beam used then you can group it and such a way that we can follow the same detail and it is easy to calculate BBS and it is not more confusing.

First floor beam layout with reinforcement details

  • The provided in such a way that having the beam patterns is followed in the first floor that is silt floor slab.
  • The provided slap thickness should be 5 inch.
  • Normally we provide slab and floor beam detail in one drawing.
  • We cannot provide crank on the sunken floor level.

Calculation of the BUILDING LOADS and RESULT

Various loads acting on a column

  1. Column self weight x no of column
  2. Beam self weight x per running meter
  • Wall load per running meter
  1. Total load acting on (DEAD LOAD + LIVE LOAD + self WEIGHT)

Note:

Beside of above loading column are also subjected bending moment, which have to be considered in final designed.

  1. COLUMN LOAD CALCULATION
  • Self weight of concrete is 2400kg/m3
  • Self steel of concrete is 2400kg/3
  • The given column size 230mm x 300mm with 1% steel and 3m standard height

Volume of concrete = 0.23 x 0.30 x 3 = 0.207m3

Weight of the concrete = 0.207 x 2400kg/m3 (density of concrete)

= 4.968 (Assume 500Kg)

Weight of steel (1%) (1/100 = 0.01) of concrete

= 0.207 x 8000 Kg/m3 x (Density of steeel) x 0.01

= 16kg

= 0.16Kn

Total weight of column = 500 + 16 = 516 Kg

= 5Kn

Note:

While doing calculation, We assume self weight of column 10 + 15KN

  1. For BEAM LOAD

The given beam dimension 230 x 300 excluding slab

Volume of concrete = 0.230 x 0.300 x 1 = 0.069m3

Weight of the Beam rft/m = 0.069 x 2400kg/m3 (density of concrete)

= 165 Kg

Weight of steel (1%) (1/100 = 0.01) of concrete

Consider 2% of steel in beam

= 0.069 x 8000 Kg/m3 x (Density of steel) x 0.02

= 11.04kg = 11Kg

= 0.11KN

Total weight of BEAM rft = 165 + 11 = 176Kg/m

= 1.76KN/m

  1. For SLAB LOAD CALCULATION

The given dimension 125mm slab

Volume of concrete = 0.125 x 1m2 x 2400Kg/m3 = 300Kg

= 3Kn

  1. For wall load

  • brick dimension 8”
  • consider 8” inch thick wall of 3m height and having 1m length

load per running meter of brick masonry work

= 0.190 x 1 x 3 x 2000

= 1140Kg/m

= 11.40Kn/m

For aerated or autoclaved concrete block this load is 550 Kg/m to 700 Kg/m.

  1. FACTOR OF SAFETY

Consider FOS = 1.5 (As per IS 456-2000)
